A word to the Hillary supporters who will not vote for Obama
I liked Hillary but I do not see her as an answer to women's problems. Where have you all been in the last 8 years as abortion rights were being systematically eroded. Women being raped and then ignored in the service of their country, where are you for them. I never see women standing up to these people, it's almost like women today are being enablers. You have turned into wussies. The passion you have for Clinton could have been of use when the Family Clinics were being attacked, and when the Bushies talked of turning back the right to choose and when Bush appointed Judges who are all Misogynists, I heard little pip squeaks nothing more. Now you are loud and clear as you want someone to do your work for you. Hillary is not your answer, the answer to your problems is you. redirect your passion for Hillary to become an advocate of woman's rights and start by actually doing something. We did not get the right to vote by pussyfooting around. Lots of woman fought hard and suffered for us. There were leaders but the followers were not sitting on the sidelines cheering them on, they were deeply involved and took the same risks. I am a woman, old now, and I would like to see my younger and more able sisters start to stand up for themselves and actually make a difference. It is easier to let someone else do it for you. Ask yourself is that why you want Hillary, is it to free you from facing the hard task of actually doing something and using your time to help yourself and your sisters.

An open letter from Tim Wise.

**********************************

This is an open letter to those white women who, despite their proclamations of progressivism, and supposedly because of their commitment to feminism, are threatening to withhold support from Barack Obama in November. You know who you are.

I know that it's probably a bad time for this. Your disappointment at the electoral defeat of Senator Hillary Clinton is fresh, the sting is new, and the anger that animates many of you--who rightly point out that the media was often sexist in its treatment of the Senator--is raw, pure and justified.

That said, and despite the awkward timing, I need to ask you a few questions, and I hope you will take them in the spirit of solidarity with which they are genuinely intended. But before the questions, a statement if you don't mind, or indeed, even if (as I suspect), you will mind it quite a bit.

First, for those of you threatening to actually vote for John McCain and to oppose Senator Obama, or to stay home in November and thereby increase the likelihood of McCain winning and Obama losing (despite the fact that the latter's policy platform is virtually identical to Clinton's while the former's clearly is not), all the while claiming to be standing up for women...

For those threatening to vote for John McCain or to stay home and increase the odds of his winning (despite the fact that he once called his wife the c-word in public and is a staunch opponent of reproductive freedom and gender equity initiatives, such as comparable worth legislation), all the while claiming to be standing up for women...

For those threatening to vote for John McCain or to stay home and help ensure Barack Obama's defeat, as a way to protest what you call Obama's sexism (examples of which you seem to have difficulty coming up with), all the while claiming to be standing up for women...

Your whiteness is showing.

3. I have no doubt that Obama will be supportive of womens' issues.
It would have been great to have a women in the White House but only if she was the right woman for the job. Not voting for the Democratic nomonee is a vote for McCain as far as I am concerned and if McCain gets in, the Supreme Court will be lost to women for the next generation. Since I don't want to explain to my future granddaughter why she has no control over her own body, I will vote for the Democrat. I'm happy that it is Obama but I would have supported Clinton.

What I find somewhat misguided about some of the Clinton support among women is that they frame this election as about womens' issues when the election is about human issues. I hope that Clinton's campaign has activated some women who have been sitting on the political sidelines and that they will stay involved in a constructive way.

4. I am a woman and have NEVER supported
Hillary. Hillary is a user and she used her gender to try and get people to vote for her.

5. Good Point.
I am posting this video on DU every chance. I really think anyone here would not seriously consider voting for McSame, but maybe they have friends who are and they need to see this video. It's the "how do we beat the bitch" with John McSame.

Anyway, I know some of these women are willing to cut of their noses to spite their faces in order to teach the Democrats a lesson (not to take women for granted). I can think of far better ways to accomplish this.

Let's demand investigation into the fact that women who put their lives on the line for this country being abused by their male colleagues.

Let's look at Democrats who truly are hostile or indifferent to women's rights and target them. We don't have to run some one against them, but we can write letters, make phone calls, send e-mails, etc. and make sure they know where we stand on certain issues.

Of course, these things take work. It is far easier to rant about how Democratic men "stole" the nomination from Hillary and go back to watching "Dancing With The Stars" or "American Idol"

6. what a ton of nerve
I presume you have spent 24/7 and all your money and passion in the above activities. What, you didn't? Many of Hillary's supporters had to fight for such rights women take for granted as professional licences, seperate credit history, the right to own property in their own names, and the right to go to colleges and service academies.

8. Reply to dsc
I have fought and won some and have fought and lost some, all on my own no one to help. I am now 78 and it's harder I haven't the strength. Others need to take up the fight in unison and with the same passion as all have had for Hillary.

10. These Hillary supporters are sexists or dupes.
There is very little difference between Obama and Hillary in policy. The difference between Hillary and McCain is an abyss. No Democrat would support McCain. They are Republicans, or "Rush chaos" dupes, or just plain sexist.
