Hillary supporters: no matter how you feel about us, Obama treated HRC with grace and respect!
http://www.minnpost.com/stories/2008...at_obama_rally

Quote:

No one is making that healing easier than Obama. Last night, after he had finished the sort of speech that leaves his followers exhilarated and exhausted, Obama did not just leave the arena. Nor did he head to the nearest television camera or the nearest fat cat.

Instead, he went to a room where the Clinton supporters had been gathered and one by one, shook the hands of the 25 people, stopping to chat with each of them.

"Chris (Coleman) walked around the room with him,'' said Stevenson, "and introduced each one of us.''

It was really pretty extraordinary.

"He shook my hand and said, 'Thank you for being here; I'm sure it's not easy,' '' said Stevenson of her meeting with Obama. "I thanked him and said that everyone involved in his campaign had been so gracious. I didn't know what to say, so I mentioned that my daughter works for a federal health clinic. And he knew right away which program I was talking about. He said, 'Oh that's wonderful.' ''

Stevenson, a feminist and Clinton supporter, had to admit this: "He's very impressive.''

And it didn't end with that. Michelle Obama arrived in the room of Clinton supporters some time after her husband had entered.

There was a little husband-and-wife moment.

"Where have you been?" he asked her.

"In a different room,'' she said. "I didn't know where you were.''

Then, they both went about the business of chatting with the Clinton supporters.

"She didn't have much time there because they had to get them out of the building," said Stevenson. "I was standing by the door and as she was leaving, she put her hand out to mine and rubbed her cheek against mine. I've never met her.''

2. You are so right. Obama does not = many of his supporters.
He is a first class act as far as social graces is concerned. I applaud his personal behavior.

5. That's not the point, of course he did.......
it's what some "supporters" continue to do that bothers people.

6. We are simply reacting to Hilary's behavior and are justified in doing so.
You have to admit that we have reason to. She hasn't shown much grace throughout the campaign. And he always seem to take the high road, congratulating and lauding her every chance he gets. But you must understand that the supporters aren't reacting unprovoked. She has done something for us to react the way we have.

8. This was the biggest collapse since Yanks-Red Sox in 2004
to bore you with a sports analogy. Some of these folks were mad because of the heated rhetoric from Bill, Hil, Terry the Terror, Howie "WolfMan" Wolfson. And our campaign just kept their poweder dry.
Give it a rest...this is a nasty, cyber community, that EXPLODES evey Primary Season. Do yourself a favor either Get Real or Get Gone.

Off to the VETS for Obama chat room.

Yeah, I served. You?

12. Let me interject here.
As an American living in Canada, I know some Canadians who are far better informed than many Americans about how our government and political system works. I don't know if Darth is among them, but I'd have to say that any Canadian who becomes an active participant on a US political discussion forum should at least be credited for showing interest. And for good reason, because to a great extent, the lives of Canadians are going to be touched just as directly, good or bad, by decisions emanating from Washington as they will by decisions emanating from Ottawa.

So you should keep an open mind about that issue.

13. There are quite a few Canadians on this board
who are very aware of what is going on and are very constructive, the Darth one is not one of them, trust me. Do a search if you like. As far as Canadians being involved in our political process I know quite a few that know more about what is going on here than my next door neighbor. My military husband has the pleasure of working with enlisted Canadian Navy men. We are really good friends with one of the guys who is really into our politics, we pass books and documentaries back and forth. This guy and his wife are die hard liberals ;I love having them over and shooting the shit. This is my experience with the few Canadians that I have had the pleasure to meet. As far as the one in question well that is a different story but of course this is the internets.

14. Yes. I didn't mean to be preachy or anything, and Darth might be full of it.
Just last fall I had a conversation with a Canadian about Bush that took a sudden bad turn when he accused me of being a Bush-hater (a designation I proudly embrace). Further discussion was impossible. Once he made the connection, he didn't want to hear any facts, bless his pointed head.

So, yes, there's a faction up here every bit as capable of talking out of their butts just as egregiously as some Americans.

15. No, you didn't sound preachy
I think your statement needed to be put out there because what we do over here does effect Canada to a certain extent.

18. Thank you JeffR. I am a Canadian and I admit I was sick to my
stomach when Bush got reelected in 2004. Our biggest trading partner in the universe is the US and we Canadians have a vested interest in the outcome of the 2008 GE. As a matter of fact, many months ago, there was an editorial in the Globe & Mail that said Canada stands to benefit if Senator Obama is elected. Everyday, we have a news item about the primaries and am fairly sure, more of us will be paying attention to the GE. No matter Harper is mini-Bush! Actually, the world is paying attention as we all want a Democrat in the White House.

It is a privilege to be on this Board discussing issues with my American counterparts.

16. It's getting his followers to follow his lead...
too many are resisting his message of change mightily imo, they don't seem to see it as message that is applicable to them

17. One might argue that forcefully resisting the clintons, even if not in a pretty way, is change.

19. I understand what you're saying. But Michele's suggest that it is our souls that need repair...
as a for instance, and near to her husband's thoughts on these matters I would think; is an internalized, personal message that escapes too many here and has very little to do with the Clinton's, out there. Offering people the option of 'change' without further suggestion, leaves too many to scribble externalized pathologies onto it and as you rightly point out "not in a pretty way".

I await the plaintiff's prayer for the leadership incumbent upon the calculus of irregular shapes & forms ;)
