New Poll: Obama 47--McCain 43--Nader 6.
This is a national poll, with Ralph Nader included, suggests that he could screw it up for Obama, much like Barr could screw it up for McCain. Interesting.

With Ralph Nader in as an Independent, is there trouble on the horizon?

1. Where is Bob Barr?
Folks ought to start including him in polls.

If he got a little more attention, he could be another Ron Paul and peel some voters away from McCain.

5. That's my question too
He would probably thrive in places where McCain didn't do well in the primaries (i.e., West Virginia)

2. Nader's irrelevant now.
Nader should be withdrawing anytime now - He promised to withdraw if Obama is the Dem nominee.

He won't siphon any Dem votes, and neither will the Greens with the crazy McKinney.

Barr's will be the one that'll be siphoning votes and splitting Rethugs right down the middle.

I'm surprised that they're not polling him yet.

9. Really?
Nader seriously said that? It's not that I think you're a liar - I'm just amazed he would say that.

I wish I was rich so I could max out to the Dems and than max out to Mr. Barr. :D

16. Nader said he wouldn't run if Edwards was the nominee. He started running after Edwards dropped out
He's running against Obama.

12. the poll assumed that Nader will make it on the ballot in all states
That is a faulty assumption. Many states require a petition effort with a large number of signatures to put a third party candidate on the ballot. The last article I read about efforts to gain ballot access suggested that Nader is linkely to be on the ballot in 15 or fewer states.

26. If Nader holds to his former patterns, he'll shoot to be on the ballot
in "swing states", and that's where he can do the most damage. I'm hoping Barr will negate any advantage Nader might gain.

I suspect that his support is much closer to 6 people.

17. I think that any polls around now are not really worth considering - need to give it time to
settle down, now that it is Obama - and if Hillary gives a good healing speech tomorrow, the dynamics will continue to change in Obama's favor. Then we can watch the impact of McCain's wooden speeches, the likely to be very one sided debates.

I have to say it - I now have HOPE!

18. By the numbers
Barack Obama, 47 percent
John McCain, 43 percent
Ralph Nader, 6 percent

Or
Barack Obama, 49 percent
John McCain, 46 percent

IE... nader takes more from McCain than from Obama. With the three, Obama has a 4 point lead, with just 2 it is only a 3 point lead. Doesn't that make your first sentance misleading?

24. I'm so glad to see completely wacky polls like this get broad play
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 09:23 PM by featherman
It would be very bad at this point for Obama to sprint out to the 15% lead he is likely to have in August coming out of the convention. The longer the media thinks it's a close race the less they will attack and vilify the front runner to keep his numbers down. Glad for the breathing space

That being said 6% for Nader undoubtably reflects disaffected Clinton supporters wanting to go somewhere. This will drop under 2% over the next month or so. I'd like to see Barr's and Nader's numbers to eventually match up at around 2% effectively cancelling each other out.

28. The AP story I read about that poll says that without Nader, the gap
actually narrows by one percentage point. So I think Nader might actually be siphoning some votes from McCain.

Regardless, I doubt Nader will make it onto the ticket in all 50 states.
