Obama's Weekend Plans:
He's looking forward to "a date" tonight with his wife, Michelle, a round of golf on Saturday ("the best I can do is the low 80s," Obama said) and a bike ride with his children on Sunday.

Not that he is expecting it to be entirely relaxing. On Saturday night, Obama will face a challenge familiar to many American parents: Eight 7-year-olds are due at his house for a birthday sleepover in honor of his daughter, Sasha.

"These kids are planning to make pizza so who knows what our kitchen will look like," Obama said. "They shouldn't call these sleepovers. They should call them wake-overs."

So, 8 lucky little girls will get to say they had a sleepover at the house of the next President of the United States!!! What a cool story that will be when they're grown up! and as a mother of two, I have to agree, there's generally no "sleeping" going on at the sleepovers!

3. How sweet
That is such a nice age for kids. I remember the giggly sleepovers with mine. They grow so fast.

sigh

5. how old are yours now?
it does go fast, I have an 8 year old and an 11 year old.
I wish I could just suspend them at this age....we're looking at middle school in the fall, I've heard that's when things get crazy..

21 now. Wonderful young woman. So bright. So much smarter than her mom. So ready to take on the world.

12. I'm afraid that's been my experience
I agree with you - this age between say 7 and 11... magical. Old enough to take care of their own daily needs, young enough to still be affectionate - even in public!

But middle school is just hard. Hard on the poor kids, who don't know what's hit them. Hard on their parents (ditto).

It did get much better in HS, though. So take heart!

Of course then you face the prospect of them being all grown...

6. This is one smart man.
He knows better than to leave poor Michelle there to defend herself against eight little seven year olds who are high on birthday cake!

9. We have managed to side-step the sleepover thing
I think I'm too old for that! Putting one young one to bed every night is exhausting, lol. So he has my admiration, as he's only a year younger than I am. Obviously blessed with greater energy.

10. The triplets are also seven....and a half.
And dealing with them is a lot of work, even though they are very good children. I hope that Sasha has a terrific sleepover birthday party.

11. He's a better man than me...
not that I'm a man or anything;)

I always have hated these sleepover parties... I mean I love it that the kids love them, and I go all out to make them fun for all, but am I a bad mama to admit that the giggling starts to get on my nerves round about 2am, and the inevitable next-day-crankies make me wonder if it really was worth it all.

That said, it does sound like it will be a wonderful weekend for him. I'll bet he is just longing for some family time and a relaxing round or two of golf after these last few grueling months. I am wishing him very well indeed!
