TYT: Hillary's New Job
Hillary's New Job
By Cenk Uygur

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/cenk-uygur/hillarys-new-job_b_105711.html

According to a new CBS News poll http://wcbstv.com/national/obama.leads.mccain.2.740552.html, about one quarter of Hillary Clinton's supporters say they will vote for John McCain instead of Barack Obama in the general election. That is a very big number and can do significant damage to the Democratic Party in November.

Hillary Clinton's new job from now until then must be to bring this number down to as close to zero as possible. It was her campaign that drove up this number by emphasizing Obama's negatives, implying sexism against Senator Clinton and sowing division within the party. It's her job now to get the number down by doing the opposite and bringing the party together.

I have talked to so many of her supporters who always assured me that once the fight was over, Hillary Clinton was going to be a lion in supporting the Democratic nominee and she would bring everybody back into the fold. Well, this is the time. I think she will ultimately be judged by how well she does in bringing these voters back to the Democratic Party and helping the party win in November.

1. Nope
It's Obama's job to get those voters, not Clinton's.

You guys attacked and lied and smeared so badly, it's not at all surprising that many Clinton supporters want nothing to do with your candidate. You can't spew that level of hate for month after month and be surprised when people respond badly to it.

6. Did Obama ever praise McCain in order to bash Hillary?
Sorry, but if there's one rule in intra-party politics, it's this one: You never, ever praise the other party's nominee in order to bash one of your own people, *especially* if the person you're bashing is likely to become the nominee for your party (which Obama was at the time, i.e. "clearly likely").

Hillary and her campaign smashed this rule to pieces, and as many of us predicted months ago, the GOP is using her own words and images it to increase McCain's chances in November: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2DECDKOFnw

BTW, don't give me the lame argument that they would've attacked Obama anyway.

Yes, obviously, they'd have attacked Obama on experience and patriotism and other BS RW talking points. But the fact is that there is nothing more damaging than using video of Hillary (and Bill), a highly respected, high profile Dem to bash a fellow Democrat who is also the nominee *while praising John McCain*. Nothing.

She helped pay for and record the RNC's best ad ever, and for that alone it IS her job.

31. You are absolutely correct, ihavenobias. All, except the most rabid of Hillary's
supporters realize this deep in their hearts -- not that they will ever admit to it.

And, Hillary and her crew know better than anyone how she used the 'kitchen sink plus' strategy against Presumptive Nominee Obama.

9. But Obama didn't do that. He's been actually very gracious toward her. Why would you blame him for
what others have done?

You sound so passionate, and so hurt and angry. But I and many other BO supporters have spewed nothing negative on this or any site regarding Hillary. Couldn't that inspire you to consider a vote for Barack? Or does the idea of a President John McCain unleashed on the world make your hurt go away?

7. That's Obama's job
He needs to convince these voters that he represents their interests and that he doesn't really think they're racists.

Using the racism strategy during the primary was a risky move for Obama and its not going to pay dividends in the GE the way it did in the primary. Let's hope he abandons it.

8. Exactly right. She needs to repair the damage she's done if she wants to
hold onto her political capital within the party.

Her congressional colleagues know that her own campaign could not reason with her when it was clear that Obama had the nomination. She's poisoning her standing and reputation with the people with whom she has to work.

They know, as most reasonable people who see and understand what they hear, that she lied about Obama being one of those who was trying to force her out of the race (and truthfully, she's out of it if she doesn't think the shills weren't pulling for her all the way), and she lied about blaming Obama for not wanting to count the votes in FL and MI.

SHE is the one who worked up her most fanatical supporters into believing that Obama was forcing her out and suppressing their votes. She and Bill are the ones who pretended to claim to be one with "hardworking white" voters in WV and KY, painting Obama as the overeducated "elitist" outsider despite their multimillons of dollars.

She further alienated her own strong congressional support with her speech on Tuesday. She has a disconnect from the reality of how she looks and sounds to the outside world that's going to sink her if she doesn't put REAL effort into helping the Democrats win.

27. Right there is the reason Obama is in trouble: arrogant, condescending, self-righteous comments
like those.

Hillary's standing on Capitol Hill is fine. She hasa no need for redemption or forgiveness. You do not speak for the lawmakers or the voters of NY.

Her reputation is only poisoned with fanatical Obama supporters, who will always find a new reason to hate her.

Hillary is in no danger of being sunk (and she did nothing wrong on Tuesday) and the polling date verifies that. Obama needs her--she owes him nothing. Fortunately, Hillary, unlike Obama, is a good person who cares about the party.

43. I think Bill Ayers is pretty damaging. Besides, Obama basically called her a bad person.
The GOP would have surely used that against her if she had been the nominee. "you'll say or do anything to win."

I suspect that the RNC will have much better ads then the ones you described. And she owes Obama nothing--he needs her. And it's not her fault that her voters don't like him--it's his and yours.

49. Wow, you really are willing to go that far to justify this to yourself?
And yes, since you mentioned, Hillary mad a very, very stupid and shortsighted move when she praised McCain's experience and patriotism while bashing Obama.

As you can see, the RNC is already using it to bash Obama, but if Hillary had won, they'd have used it against her. In other words, she was so desperate that she used a nuclear attack that could have no outcome other than to reduce her party's chances in November.

And don't tell people "he needs her". It just confirms the idea that she's holding her voters hostage.

33. Are you a Capitol Hill insider who can verify that? I think I'll stick to Charles Rangel's take
on it. You know, the big Hillary-backing representative from NY?

The one who pretty much told us a lot of her own colleagues were wondering :wtf: after her delusional, "I'm the better candidate and I'm not deciding anything tonight" speech on Tuesday, the same night her opponent actually WON?

How thick is that bubble you're living in? The bigger it is, the harder it's going to pop.

I'm sorry you refuse to see reality, but no one is remote-controlling the words that come out of her own mouth.

Her own campaign advisors had to call congress to try to reason with her because they couldn't do it.

There are downticket supporters in NY who are in danger of not getting re-elected because they continued to support her through her kitchen sink campaign tactics against Obama.

You can keep claiming the sky is orange, but it just isn't.

39. The story about the advisors calling congress was debunked. There are no local Democrats in NY
who I have heard of that are considered in danger of losing re-election. That is simply a narrative put out by Obama supporters.

Obama didn't "win" he was put over the top by SDs. They can change their minds and it is very gracious of Hillary to drop out before the Convention, something no other candidate in history--with as many votes and delegates as she has--has ever done before.

Charlie Rangel did not say anything that correlates with your assertion that she has been disgraced. He said that he was proud of her, he called her his leader and said that she should be VP.

54. "....all of Hillary's supporters are not Hatemongering Hillbots"
Never said they were. To the contrary, I've always made the clear distinction between the Hillary supporters and the Hillbots.

It was always easy enough for me to tell the difference between the two, but now the difference is so plain that even Stevie Wonder could see it.... If someone is still thinking Hillary has a path to the nomination, or thinks she was somehow "robbed", they are a Hillbot.

Thankfully, such people are in the minority. And will be an extinct species as of Wednesday.
