i encountered another anti-obama racist
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 10:43 AM by iamthebandfanman
while shopping at my local Dollar General store i heard a conversation erupt behind me.

it was between a woman and man in their 70s i would guess.
went like so:

woman :"im sure glad that primary is over"
man:"me too, i dont know what to think of it. who are you voting for in november?"
woman: "the democrat, thats for sure"
man:"i dont know that obama, i dont like him.i dont think i can do it. im hoping hillary will still pull it off"

to which i couldnt stand...so i turned and announced infront of everyone....

fired up! ready to go! yes we can!

and left.

now, some will say there was no racism in that converstaion... but u didnt get to witness the look on his face and the pauses...along with the reaction of the woman who instantly knew why...

i keep telling myself time will change all this, once generations pass on.... i can only hope this is true.

1. So anybody who opposes Obama is a racist ?

I just wanted to make sure. It's easy when things are kept simple. We don't have to think.

2. And everyone who voted against him in the primaries is a racist.
There is no other possible reason for such a vote.

4. glad
you like to put words in peoples mouth.

is it because you have nothing to say for yourself or are you just that bitter?

11. Bitter? Oh, yes. Anyone who doesn't agree with all things posted in
His name is obviously bitter because he or she is a Hillary supporter.

Sure. Don't just put words in people's mouths, create whole personas for them.

Many even here thought both Clinton and OBama left much to be desired.
That's why one of them finally had to be dragged over the finish line by unelected super delegates. Neither was able to close the deal.

Get a life.

22. Operation Chaos is another possible reason.
Maybe some of those folks weren't racist.

3. guess you didnt read the last couple sentences
oh well. i figured as much.
trust me, he looked back at the only black man in line after saying he didnt like him. the woman noticed and tried to stop talking to him.

he was prejudice no doubt.

when you live here and witness it everyday, u can see right through body gestures and eye movements.

21. "I don't think I can do it" would be the linguistic tip-off
Don't think you can do what? Vote for a Dem? No, apparently that's not it. Vote for a man? Mmm, doubtful, coming from another man. So what could it be that he doesn't think he's capable of doing...?

Most racism these days is handed out in code words and phrases, because being openly racist is no longer socially acceptable, at least in public. This is a good example.

5. We're going to see a lot of it. And also a lot of white folks defending it....
on the theory "if they didn't say the word 'nigger' then it's not racist".

Buckle up.

We just have to replace those two dinosaurs with two NEW voters!

That's our homework. For every racist dinosaur, recruit a fresh face.

8. That's precisely what I want. Out with bigots and in with people who understand
we're all the same and that everyone on this earth is entitled to respect, peace and justice. That way we won't have a party that collaborates in bombing the shit out of sand niggers if you get my drift.

7. there is hope
my 80 yr old mom is voting for obama but that isn't what shocked me. She lives in CA and I asked her so how are you going to vote on gay marriage. I totally expected her to say no way. But instead she said, well I have been watching Ellen and she had a talk about it the other day where she said she had a right to be happy and so I am voting that its okay.

I want you to know the shocked the crap out of me. So if my older mom can be both pro obama and for gay marriage peoples hearts and minds are changing.

10. Oh, Dollar General store...
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 11:34 AM by Blue_Roses
some mighty fine Christian folks who own that conglomerate:sarcasm: and I do go there too. I just wish they weren't so obvious with their "religious" panderings. The lady's response sounds like a typical "Dollar General response." I had a long conversation with a manager there about the election a while back and even though she was complaining about healthcare, she still supported Bush. I told her,"don't you know you are voting against you're own best interest."

Her response,"probably, but just not sure about the Democrats." :banghead:

Ignorance.

I love that name, Piggly Wiggly. When we went to SC last month we even stopped at one and got a bumper sticker.

do any of these people have internet connections? Voting for the evil they know, instead of the 'unknown', (that wouldn't be unknown if they bothered to read his website, or either of his books)...

sigh...

16. I love having my Obama '08 sign in my yard and on my van.
Yesterday, I had my first redneck road rager flip me off. I was just so proud. I got a warm fuzzy feeling all over knowing I'd pissed off a racist. :)

17. Just from what I've read elsewhere
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 11:14 AM by DeschutesRiver
the "look" is more likely tied to the claims that Obama is a Marxist, something that is simply freaking out a lot of the old folks and the god and country types. I've almost seen more of this concern than over race, in fact.

Could also be that they are in the "he is a MOOSLIM, and they want us dead" crowd too, which has nothing to do with race. And if that isn't wierd enough, I can tell you that there is a whole biblical deal about Obama being something called the anti-christ and other strange bible things. I don't do orgnized religion myself, so am probably getting some of the terms wrong - but I can tell you that part of my year is spent in a fairly religious kind of ranching community and some would be far more upset that Obama is fufilling some of their worst biblical nightmare scenerios than giving a rat's patootie about his color.

I have one neighbor who is big on something called The Rapture, which after I looked it up, made me duck that neighbor other than to wave happily and drive by fast. I admit that once I had thought about waiting until I saw her drive toward me, then if she looked away, try to quickly duck down on the seat, in the hopes she'd freak out and think she might have just missed the rapture moment and been "left behind" but really, no one out here would appreciate this kind of humor. Actually, you could get hurt toying with people like that over such a thing.

So unless you hear the not so subtle hints that race is involved, that look can mean a whole bunch of different "fears" are arising in some people. You mentioned you were in the local Dollar Store, so if it is like ours, this might be what you ran into. Not that racism isn't present out here too, or doesn't suck raw eggs. Just not safe to assume that, given all the freaky theories running around about Obama. Change and the unknown scares some people to death.

Are you the same kind of dipshit who can tell if a person is gay "just by looking" ?

You know, there are some people that don't like Obama and it's not because he's black.

24. I am with you. Not sure that incident was racist though
Maybe you had to be there.

But I have seen the same type of stuff in my area. Pretty sickening. But on the other hand, he is still going to win, and I am glad many of these disgusting people will live to see it.

I wonder how many will say "my president, right or wrong" when Obama takes the oath of office. :)

29. Listen up! I could write for days about the comments I hear in the
shopping center, condo, and other places. But for what purpose? We all know that racism is alive and well in this country. And we should realize that all the hype and excitement over Obama's nomination will not erase that. We must realize that the primary is about singing to and with the choir. Obama must now face the congregation and the congregation doesn't always like the songs the choir sings.

30. Irony alert: ASSUMING people are racist because of their demographics is IN ITSELF RACIST
Am I allowed to ASSUME that African American voters are racists because they support Obama? Of course not. That would be ASININE.

What you've done is no different.
