Hillary: The inevitable presidentail candidate. Oh, wait...
Hillary: The inevitable vice presidential candidate. Oh, wait...
Hillary: The inevitable cabinet member?
... Ambassador?
Help me out here. What's the next "inevitable" meme?

1. fiziwig, I really think it is sad that you can't grow up and stop being spiteful. And Hillary never
said that she was inevitable.

6. Actually, she did.
Remember the interview with Katie Couric?

*paraphrasing*

KC (trying to ask a question): "If you are not the nominee..."

HRC: "I will be the nominee."

KC: "That's certainly looking to be the case. But just in case you aren't..."

HRC: "I will be the nominee."

8. She said that she was prepared to support whoever the nominee was. And your paraphrasing
is incorrect. Her words were totally twisted, she answered that question the same way Obama, Romney or McCain would have.

11. I watched the clip again and my paraphrase was definitely off.
However, the point still stands -- she declared herself the nominee and admitted to never considering an endgame where she comes up short.

Judge for yourself:

14. Politicians are OFTEN overconfident. It's clear she made many mistakes in this race.
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 04:15 AM by Radio_Lady
However, the fact remains that this was the closest primary race in history. She came in a strong second. It is not clear whether this will help her or hurt her. Many people feel that, after all the hunt for a VP candidate, she will still come in miles in front of the others.

Is it true she won the most popular votes? A post here recently claims that it is.

Nice to speak with you. Let's wait for developments.

Cordially,

Radio Lady in Oregon

9. Long time ago, and far away, a post by OneTwo was wiped away.
Pleast post the date of that comment! On the CBS News show -- HOW MANY MONTHS AGO? YOU'VE NEVER wished to WIN AND NOT ACHIEVED IT?

Hillary Clinton had a right to seek the nomination and to pursue her dream. Sometime our dreams don't work out exactly as we thought they would. Nobody sees her sulking in the corner with her thumb in her mouth.

Now, she has an obligation to get behind the nominee and work like hell to get him/them elected.

We'll see who has the guts and good sense to accept her new situation.

Best to her and her husband, William Jefferson Clinton, in their new lives.

Cordially,

Radio Lady Ellen in Oregon

13. There's nothing wrong with wishing for success.
Look above. Another poster claimed that Hillary never said that she was inevitable. That is false; she most certainly did, and even went as far as to predict the length of the race on one occasion (the Stephanopolous interview). I have all the respect in the world for Hillary and her determination and drive. She is a role-model as far as those character traits are concerned.

Too bad she didn't conduct a different kind of campaign; she is obviously a very capable and smart woman and would have been an asset on the ticket. Unfortunately, it looks like she may have inadvertently forced Obama's hand the other way.

32. Are you counting her out as a politician? If you are, then shame on you.
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 05:04 PM by Radio_Lady
Her Senate term doesn't end until 2012.

The primary broke the way it did for lots of reasons.

But now, people are pursuing her even more fiercely because she is on the short list for VP.

What's up with that?

If she gets told she isn't going to be chosen for VP -- which some people who didn't want her for President and might have assumed would be the case -- that is apparently not true.

So it just adds more fuel to the fire.

24. A clarification: I was poking fun at the PUNDITS who keep shouting "inevitable"...
first about the nomination, and now about the vice presidency.

My remark was in no way meant to be a slam at Clinton, but a slam at the media talking heads who keep pushing the inevitability meme.

29. She said that she would win the nomination by February 5.
i.e. inevitable, during her interview with Katie Couric. No other Dem candidate made those kinds of statements before the primary season began. That's why she lost, because she thought that she was entitled and inevitable to win it by Super Tuesday. She had no post-Super Tuesday strategy and that's why she lost the next 12 straight contests and sealed her fate.

33. Hey, people can be wrong. I SAID SHE WOULD NAIL IT BY FEB. 5...
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 05:08 PM by Radio_Lady
But now we're on to a new phase -- in which she may be selected for ANOTHER position -- and you keep wanting to spear the woman in the back. If she gets this OTHER position, it would only be with the positive vote of YOUR PRESUMPTIVE CANDIDATE.

She only lost by a hair's breadth in the CLOSEST PRIMARY IN AMERICAN HISTORY.

Also, the votes we're counting are PRE-VOTES in the ether! The Democratic Convention is in August!

My God! What's wrong with this picture?

what it was conceived to be -- a place for Democrats to get together and fight to get back the White House.

I would not have predicted the venom and vitriol from people, but now I can say the management is going to get a handle on this and begin to penalize those who are not willing to play the game.

Others who can't live by the rules should consider many choices out there, and we invite you to move on to another outlet that more accurately represent your positions.

26. Once more, my apologies for being misunderstood.
I was not criticizing Clinton. I was criticizing all the pundits who keep shouting "inevitable", first about the nomination, and now about the VP slot. My question is when are the PUNDITS going to stop pushing this inevitability meme?

I guess everybody is so hyper-over-sensitized right now that whatever anyone says might easily be taken as a slam against their favorite candidate. I guess I need to explain myself using more words of fewer syllables from now on. Or at least until the temperature goes back down to normal in here.
