Kerry Campaign: Bush Too Busy Attacking to Get the Facts Right
WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today by Kerry-Edwards 2004:

During his speech to the VFW this morning, George W. Bush continued his pattern of misleading rhetoric, glossing over his failed record on veterans and failing to articulate a plan for winning the peace in Iraq (news - web sites).

"George Bush needs to learn a certain four letter word: FACT. It is a fact that he has overextended the military to its thinnest levels in years and forced thousands of soldiers to involuntarily extend their deployments. It is a fact that he threatened to veto the $87 billion supplemental and sent troops into battle without body armor. It is a fact that he has broken his promise to America's veterans and made it harder for them to access quality health care. George Bush is too busy attacking to get his facts straight and he is out of credibility," Kerry spokesman Phil Singer said.

BUSH HAS NOT KEPT HIS PROMISE TO VETS

2. ..and NOW Kerry has to say these things in stump speeches
No one reads these press releases. But this is the kind of good attacks that are needed, justified and are not mean or petty. They simply state the truth. I have a feeling that Kerry will begin to say things like this very forcefully come September. I have a feeling the gloves are going to come off and he will both talk about his own vision and remind Americans what this unelected bastard has done to them and this country (at least I'm hoping so).

6. The Kerry campaign sends out reams of info
The local media have carried their message more dependably than the national networks. Want proof?

Kerry-Edwards 2004 Will Distribute News Via U.S. Newswire: In a Campaign First, News Will Appear On Yahoo! News/Politics

8/13/2004 11:49:00 AM
To: National Desk, Political Reporter

Contact: Allison Dobson of Kerry-Edwards 2004, 202-464-2800

WASHINGTON, Aug. 13 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Effective immediately, all news documents issued to the media and the public by the Kerry-Edwards 2004 Press Office will be distributed via U.S. Newswire. These documents will include press releases, statements, news advisories, schedules, backgrounders and speech texts for the candidates, families, surrogates and staff as appropriate.

"We are pleased to have the unique resources of U.S. Newswire at our disposal," said Michael Meehan, Communications Director of Kerry-Edwards 2004. "They have a long history of helping presidential candidates tell their story to the press and the public, and we look forward to having the benefit of their experienced staff and unique technology as we move into a phase in the campaign where voters are increasingly focused on the election."

Additionally, through USN's unique agreements with online news services such as Yahoo! Google, Lexis/Nexis and others, Kerry- Edwards campaign news is posted in full to leading online news sites, enabling the research community, as well as the younger audiences that increasingly rely on online services, to receive news from the Kerry-Edwards campaign. Through U.S. Newswire's agreement with Yahoo!, Kerry-Edwards is the first presidential campaign to have its news and information posted directly to Yahoo! News/Politics ( http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=index2&cid=669 ). The effect of this unique arrangement may have been revealed in a recent Washington Post article, (A Bounce for JohnKerry.com, Washington Post, Aug. 11, 2004), which cited a new Nielsen/NetRatings survey showing traffic to www.JohnKerry.com has increased 191 percent in recent weeks, moving up to the 213th most popular site in the country. By comparison, the article stated, President Bush's site did not have enough visitors to even register with the survey.

U.S. Newswire began working for the John Kerry for President campaign in March 2004 and since then has distributed thousands of documents. USN has been contracted to provide news distribution by every leading vote-getter in each of the past four presidential elections.

------

Editors Note: U.S. Newswire's data feed is available to credentialed media at no charge via a variety of distribution means including: AP DataFeature; APExpress, the USN website (RSS enabled), Yahoo News, Google News and AOL News, MSNBC and others. For information about these and other options to receive the U.S. Newswire feed, please contact Mark Bagley of U.S. Newswire at 800-544-8995.

5. Nice to see
Some Dems are beginning to grow a pair. But we do need to put more people out there who can better defend Kerry. James Carville and Paul Begala do a better job of defending Kerry than some actual elected Democrats have done.

8. Don't just put in a press release
Make a TV ad about it like Rove and Chimpy do. The majority of Americans won't see this press release

9. This is really good
It changes the subject back to the issues and Chimp's own record on them, while responding to their bogus soundbytes at the same time.

It's key, I think, to keep the subject where we want it, and they're trying to distract with all this other stuff and nonsense about Kerry. The difficulty is that they have not only the bully pulpit, but the lapdog media. They can "make news" any time, any day, in any way they wish.
