Poll question: Is John McCain actually a * WORSE* Presidential Nominee than Gee-Dub?
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 02:05 PM by AzDar
Watching McCain's painful attempt at speechifying last night, I found myself turning to Hubby multiple times, horrified, in response to the obvious lies, stilted speech patterns, and awkward body language (not to mention the SMILE, which I'm sure frightens small children and some pets...Gahhh!!!) exhibited by the latest cream o' the GOP crop. The whole production was shockingly bad.

Thus an argument ensued : Hubby posited that while GWB, in 2000, while clearly a buffoon, AT LEAST had a bit of charisma and natural charm to buffer his many, many shortcomings politically. This, he argued, made him a more generally palatable candidate than McSame. Disturbed that he could EVEN SUGGEST that there could be a candidate worse than George W. Bush, I vehemently disagreed. But on revisiting the subject today; after getting past the long-held belief that there can be no worse than the giggling idiot we've been saddled with for 7 years, I'm beginning to reconsider.
Is it POSSIBLE?
What say you?

1. Seems like two questions--which is a less-electable candidate, and which is worse as a potential
president.
Let's start with this--what would McCain have done in that Florida classroom in front of those children if he had just been informed about an attack?

5. Just what I was thinking. McCain is a worse candidate, I believe ...
... but may make a marginally better President that W. (It's a mighty low bar.)

2. As a candidate he's worse than Junior, but hard to believe he could be a worse President
He seems to be almost as much of an asshole as Junior, but not as dumb.

3. I agree with the Mr.
Old John McCain has none of the "charm" (just threw up a little, but arrogant frat boys are 'charming' to some, I guess) and 8 years worth of policy failures hanging around his neck.

4. I'd say McCain's a more-ridiculous candidate, less-ridiculous president.
I agree with .... well, pretty much nothing that McCain says, but I can't imagine he'd be more incompetent than the dude we have in there now.

6. It's ironic
I thought McCain was clearly their better candidate in 2000. But now he's looking more ridiculous than the Chimp. Is it all the medical damage to his body, and probably mind (from pharmaceuticals)? Or just neocon brainwashing?

7. I didn't think speeches could get worse than Dubya's
but boy have I been proven wrong. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

He would be just as embarrassing as a symbol of America as Dubya is now. At least W's sometimes made me laugh - McSame is just TRAINWRECK bad. A horror to behold. Last night I was just sitting there dumbfounded by his awfulness!

The Rethungs should just change their campaign slogan this year to "D'oh!"

9. McCain Is A Very Poor Campaigner...All He Has Is His Resume
That being said, John Kennedy was one of the most charismatic figures of the twentieth century and Nixon was one of the least charismatic, and Kennedy beat Nixon by two teths of a percent...

If I was McSame's campaign manager I would try to limit his public speeches and put him in more town hall forums... His presentation is just awful...When he laughs it comes off as a sneer...He's just not a good public speaker...If he looked and talked like Mitts we would be in trouble...

11. I'm not so sure Mittens is completely out of the picture...
It's a long way to November for someone as (apparently) frail as McCain.

I'm more than a little suspicious of the GOP's plans...

18. Mitt Has The Opposite Problem Of McSame
He's a decent politician and looks like a million bucks but he has a lousy political resume...I am not going to criticize his resume as a businessman because he was a very successful one...But his political resume is weak...He went from being a moderate Republicant to an arch conservative one in an era when arch conservatism is on the wane...

Back to McSame... I don't hate the guy...I respect his public service...If I was in is his shoes and the VC were beating me I would have said anything they wanted me to...It wouldn't have taken years of beatings...I digress... McSame looks old...He's roughly the same age as Reagan was but Reagan was a much more robust figure...He was also five inches taller, Hollywood handsome, and didn't have the physical scars of war...

Anyway, before we count our chickens we should remember Richard Nixon was the most charismatically challenged "dork" ever elected president...He wore wing tips on the beach and was laughed at when he played the romantic lead in a college play...But he knew the dark spot that lurks in many of us and how to reach it...

This should be an intersting campaign...

He was an enigma...I don't think he was all dark... Nobody is all dark... I remember reading about him going to talk one night to protesters at The Mall... He started talking to them about Ohio State football..

12. GW was a far better candidate than he was a president
He did a good job getting almost elected. McCain's candidacy, especially up against our powerhouse candidate, will be a fucking joke.

13. Of course he is. 1, he's oooooooollllllllllddddddd
2. He LOST to chimpy. Even when he had him on the ropes he didn't know how to take him out, repub style.

3. He doesn't have the fundies fooled into thinking he's "the new Jesus"

The only thing he has going for him , and it is a good one, is the cadre of "reporters" and "pundits" who think he is just the greatest. We shall see if that is enough.

14. Bush is a terrible president, but he does have political skills.
There's no doubt that he connects will with a lot of people on the right wing in a 'good old boy' kind of way. Indeed,he's the opposite of his dad, who was a terrible campaigner but a passable president. Doesn't mean I like him that much, I just mean his presidency wasn't the disaster on wheels that his son's has been.

22. Yes, he is worse.
At least W came off as relatively young and healthy. And he was consistent; consistently idiotic, but still. McCain has changed his positions so many times, who knows what he stands for anymore? Who could possibly get behind him? The only reason he got the nomination was because the Repugs know they haven't got a chance in hell, so no one with any brains ran.
