The millennium begins here folks.
Nothing can stop us now. The road maybe bumpy but we are on course to a better future.

1. I agree. Barack's a 21st century candidate. McCain's a 20th century candidate...
...and the presidency of GWB was a initial throwback to the Dark Ages.

5. I have been walking around thinking about Obama's speech,
letting it sink in. For someone my age (54) it has so many levels of meaning, so many implications. I know it is a cliche, but I haven't felt this hopeful about America since the Kennedy years. The phrase "this is our time" really hit me. I have been trying to remember a lyric by Stephen Sondheim called "Our Time." It is from his show "Merrily We Roll Along." It takes place on a rooftop where three young friends are watching Sputnik pass overhead. (Anyone else here remember doing that?) I can't think of all the words, and can't find them online - can anyone else? But they go, in part:

"It's our time; breathe it in.
Worlds to change and worlds to win.
Our time; we're what's new.
Me and you, pal; me and you."

That was the feeling back then. If America has a gift, I think it is a unique ability to reinvent itself. It feels like we are starting to do that again.

But, oh...hope is frightening for people my age. Our hopes have been dashed so many times. But, what is there to do but take a deep breath and plunge in again? Cynicism is a cold companion, and too damned easy.

So...here we go!

7. Agreed!
We'll get to reset the clocks, and restart the 21st century the CORRECT way. Let's let THIS be the kickoff, the actual beginning of the next millennium.
