MoveOn Ad Rips Attack on Kerry Heroism....compares to Bush awol
WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 /U.S. Newswire/ -- MoveOn PAC today released a new 30-second TV spot attacking George W. Bush for failing to call on one of his major donors -- a long-time associate of Karl Rove and leading Texas Republican funder -- to stop the smear campaign on John Kerry's Vietnam service being run by a group called Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

The ads, which start running in three states and nationally Tuesday, call on the President to personally denounce the ads for their false and misleading attacks on Senator Kerry -- just as Senator John McCain has called on him to do.

Though the White House and the Bush-Cheney campaign deny involvement in the ads, SBVT is a clear Republican Party front. The group is funded primarily by Robert J. Perry, the largest donor to Republican causes in Texas, a long-time donor to George W. Bush, and a supporter of the political work of Karl Rove and Tom DeLay, among others.

"Karl Rove and the Republicans are up to their usual dirty tricks," said MoveOn PAC Director Eli Pariser. "Once again, they're funding and coordinating an outrageous smear campaign while denying their involvement and refusing to condemn it. John McCain knows what it's like to be on the receiving end of these attacks. Tactics like these should have no place in American politics, and, with one call, George W. Bush could stop them." ....cont'd

1. let's see how thoroughly this is covered
the time devoted to this ad, compared to the time given to the SwiftLiars ad, should be quantified.

And the tone of the treatment as well. The whores addressed the SwiftLiars' criticisms objectively, let's see how they approach MoveOn's ad.

My prediction: a lot of disapproving looks from the whores, and a lot of talk about "Bush hatred."

We'll see...

19. Or, they could just
ignore it. That's one of their favorite tricks too. I'm going to mention this in my next letter to CNN today for the virtual protest!

20. Your fifty bucks helped tremendously and they could use some more
I think they acted in a very timely manner. How long do you think it takes to put together a sophisticated commercial? They don't just happen overnight. If it wasn't for your fifty bucks and others like you there would be no Ad at all. You are helping to stop these fascist bastards and I personally want to thank you.

7. Step 1: Pin the Smear on Bush. DONE! Fantastic.
Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 10:45 AM by WiseMen

Step 2: Demolish the smear-mongers. Demonstrate that the Ad "dishonest and dishonorable and that it even missrepresents
the people in the Ad.

We will need a Step 3: Use the OPEN DOOR to further promote Kerry's
record of honorable and courageous services. Bush's negatives
are already so high that "pinning the smear" may not have much effect.

10. That was exactly my thought.
We need voters to associate the SwiftVets' ad with the Bush Administration. Actually, I agree that Rove is behind the whole thing. I hope that EVERY single Democrat on TV will point to the fact that Rove is behind that disgusting ad.

They thought they can start a smear campaign and than claim they had nothing to do with it. BULLSHIT.

Bush should have condemned when it first came out.

that this is a good idea. I think that story was over and this ad may only serve to prolong the cycle.

12. That anti-Kerry group is getting a second ad together
They got $400,000 in donations from 8,000 people while the first one ran. It isn't over.

15. I like it - Keep repeating Kerry's record vs W's
Kerry should love talking about his service record - and the dems should continue comparing it to Bush's & Cheney's records, like Tom Harkin did last week, calling Cheney a coward. Keep pounding it in like the Bushies pound what they want people to remember.

22. If the Swift attack stops, it will look like MoveOn made them take it off
Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 01:15 PM by Democat
But it won't. They probably have more money in the bank right now than they did when they started.

They are probably getting ready for the next wave of ads.

MoveOn is trying to tie them to Bush so that every ad comes across a a Bush attack ad.

Thank you, MoveOn!

23. So I hope the media plays this for free as much as they did Bush's ad.
Wishful thinking, I guess.
