Some Republicans Dropping Allegiance To Bush, Voting For Kerry
<snip>

MEDFORD, Oregon, Aug 15 (AFP) - They are unhappy with the state of the US economy and they disagree with President George W. Bush's handling to the war on terror.

They might sound like members of White House contender John Kerry's Democratic Party, but these Bush detractors are actually Republicans unhappy with the president who have been spotted at several pro-Kerry rallies.

As Kerry traveled through the US heartland to court undecided voters in the last two weeks, several Republicans disappointed with the Bush administration attended the Democrat's campaign events.

In Las Vegas, Nevada, Marcia Forkos earned an embrace from Kerry after voicing her support for his candidacy. "As a registered Republican, I work very hard to see that you are elected," Forkos told Kerry.

5. Its a one way switch
I can see Bush losing some of his support from the 2000 election, but I can NEVER see any of Gore's support going to Bush over Kerry.

7. This is a perfect example of why I don't pay attention to polls...
My woman's intuition tells me it's going to be a landslide victory for Kerry. And if any of you ever feel a twinge of doubt, just look at the pictures of huge crowds at any of Kerry's campaign rallies. It only takes common sense to realize how this country badly needs a new direction.

8. I'll trust your intuition!
You can feel the energy and momentum going towards Kerry. The enthusiastic crowds for Kerry, the weak crowds for Bush, and the desperation of the Bush attacks on Kerry are at least equally as telling as any poll.

11. FIL, MIL, friends MIL, FIL, SIL all voting Kerry, 1st ever Dem vote
Yeah, it's anecdotal evidence, but MOST encouraging. Scary too, because the GOP reads the tea leaves as well as we do and I wouldn't put ANYTHING past them as they attempt to salvage or steal the WH from Kerry.

12. You know
If I were Republican I would be sick to my stomach because the dreams they hold dear were right there for the taking.

Right after 9/11 and when we went into Afghanistan, Bush was sitting with a 90%+ approval rating. We had Dems and Reps holding hands singing songs. The opposition Party (Democrats) was rendered impotent for the fear of dissent would be met with derision and calls of being unpatriotic.

In short, Bush had it all…However, in 2 years he has managed to alienate the entire world, completely piss off Democrats and moderates, botched the war on terror, lied to the American people, continued to show himself to be a stammering idiot, attempted to push through extremist legislation and judges and now what does this guy have?

Roughly 40% of the American people anywhere close to pleased with him (and 30% of those would be happy with him if he nuked the world just for entertainment) … Had Bush taken his political capital and proceeded with caution in not only the war but on his silly economic program then he would have waltzed right back into the White House EASY.

Fortunately though, the truth was easy to come by as this administration in their supreme arrogance took that 90% approval rating as an admission that the American people were ready for some raging right-wing lunacy. When it truth, this nation rejects it, which is why they never speak to specifics for their program…only platitudes about “faith, values, freedom, strength”. When looking under those canards you see the ugliness which is the Conservative ideology.

14. Moveon.org
The seventeen Errol Morris directed ads on Move On all show Bush voters who are changing to Kerry. Why do you think Bush is spending so much time campaigning to his "base." He's losing them and he knows it. Unless he has one really big ass rabbit in his hat, he is in deep trouble.

16. I like the sound of "Kerry Republicans."
There probably are many republicans who don't like Bush but intend to vote for him just because they have always voted republican. People like that may be more willing to vote for Kerry if they thought they were a part of a large group of "Kerry Republicans."

What's the matter with America? Is it wimping out? Is it ready for a "sensitive" Alan Alda leader? Won't all the tougher nations kick sand in our face? Oh no!

18. My realtor told me today
that two major republicans in our town are definetly voting for Kerry. They are not actively campaigning for him but they say they and many of their friends are either not going to vote or vote for Kerry. They have no idea my realtor friend is a repub or Dem. One of the guys is the person who's position I am running for because he is not running again and he knows I am a big time Dem and he told her he would be happy to meet with me for lunch and give me any information that might help my campaign. Lordy Lordy what is happening.

19. Yes, But......
Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 06:55 PM by Wubette
Are there any Republican elected officials coming forward to endorse Kerry? We have Democratic Politicans backing Bush but where are the Republicans who are Patriotic enough to put their country ahead of their Party? I have yet to see a Republican who is smart enough to think for themselves; and brave enough to say what they really think.

Clearly this indicates to me that dissent or even alternative viewpoints are not encouraged let alone accepted in the Republican Party.

20. Its a "team" thing...
I don't think high ranking folks on either side of the fence can come out and endorse "the other side" if they wish to continue receiving support from their own team in the future. My husband has been trying to explain the concept for years (I'm not allowed to cheer for any college football team other than Michigan no matter how pretty the uniforms! <hee hee>), and its finally sinking in. We will be able to see it in the speeches, tho. Arnold says he won't criticize Kerry, nor will McCain, and I think that's as far as they can go (and still collect money from the RNC). Sometimes its what people DON'T say that needs to be heard! :)
