26. I know!
I remember the days of White's Only and Colored Only signs, among many other ugly things. I almost can't wrap my mind around what's happening right now!

I remember those signs, too.

We'll just keep seeing Obama, our guy,
our Democratic nominee
and it will hit!

5. Oh man, that brought TEARS to my eyes! You're right --
change HAS already happened ... Can't WAIT to see the newspapers ALL OVER THE
WORLD tomorrow. Our stock as a nation has just gone up by simply nominating
this extraordinary man.

Now all we have to do is get a VP candidate who's not ... her.

24. I'm with you. I am so with you.
I haven't felt so much hope for our nation in... well, ever, really. I'm only 28, so I haven't lived long enough to see unsullied American triumph, but seeing the first African-American President in the prime of my life is more than I could have ever hoped for.

12. I was trying to explain to two of my adult children tonight
just how historic this is in so many ways. They have never known an election without a Bush or a Clinton involved. They have not grown up with racism (at least not around me), so they don't know how remarkable it is that we will have a biracial president.

I shied away from being the didactic mom, but I did tell them in no uncertain terms:

Politics and U.S. history are about to get very interesting!

28. I had a big conversation about this very thing with my 27 year old daughter
a couple of weeks ago, when the t-shirt with Obama and Curious George on it. She said she kind of knew what the t-shirt meant, but not really, so I told her about how truly ugly things were when I was growing up.

In a way, I'm glad I had to explain it to her, because that means that that kind of ugliness is not something she sees like I did.
