The End: How It Happens
03 Jun 2008 06:04 am

Over the weekend, Sen. Hillary Clinton has told friends that she will NOT drop out today. Again, these conversations occurred over the weekend.

These friends expect that she will take a few days to think about her next move. They say she does not feel rushed and does not want to feel pressured. It is quite possible that Clinton makes a vice presidential overture in the speech; as in, she'll express a willingness to serve her party in any capacity deemed necessary to to unite the party. The Obama world seems still very cool to this idea.

In general, her speech tomorrow night will be a celebration of Hillary Clinton's campaign and her 17 million supporters. It will also be a summary of key points for undecided superdelegates.

Sens. Tom Harkin and Ken Salazar are trying to get the undeclared Senate superdelegates to endorse in one fell swoop; several dozen House members are planning to endorse Obama by Wednesday. Obama aides believe that they will have more than 2118 public pledges from pledged and automatic delegates by Wednesday morning.

John McCain's speech will focus on the arc of his career -- a life of putting the cause of service first, of being for something greater than himself... and will end with a call for responsible change and reform.

Barack Obama's speech, too, will be a celebration of his campaign... "very inspirational," according to an aide,... it will recognize HRC... and it will pivot to McCain using some new language.

1. No way, she's dropping.
"reports from journalist friends with the Clinton campaign that there is NO sign up sheet for media travel with the Clinton campaign for next week and some are booking their own flights back to D.C. this evening"

SO many signs point to that. 36 House members set to endorse Obama, perhaps at onces. 5 Senators set, waiting for the polls to close. Dem Governors ready to unite behind Obama. She said, and her campaign said they are going to announce that they will do whatever is asked of them to put a Dem in the WH.

THey have been asked to no take it to the COnvention, and she won't.

2. I heard the Vanity Fair article was the last nail in the coffin.
Haven't seen it but it must be pretty, er, well developed.

4. Really nasty stuff
The Comeback Id"

Lots of good stuff there about Bill and his pals, especially Ron Burkle, in their escapades and travels on Burkle's "Air Fuck One".

7. Thanks for the link!
Very classy so far.. but I can see where this would put the brakes on the comeback, and it's a good thing.

5. The writing is on the wall and she sees it. Still, if she wants a couple days to cool off..
and rolls out her endorsement at a joint event on say Thursday or Friday, that's fine by me.

Whichever... No to VP!

3. It's all about the money - always is
She'll drop out when she is satisfied she'll get her money back. For now she'll suspend, with the threat that she could start up again, unless, of course, somebody helps her pay back $25-$40 million she owes, including the loans from herself. I don't think she has any interest in being anyone's veep.
