So, Bush walks into a Portland Gym So, Bush walks into a Portland Gym...
After the Kerry waterfront Portland rally I went door-to-door for America Coming Together. One of the citizens of Portland that I met that afternoon, a 72 year old woman who watched who watched Portland's a13 Bush and Kerry events on TV, told me that she has a hard time believing that she was hearing what she was hearing during the coverage of the Bush rally:

"So Bush has this forum in a Gym to talk highlight successful small businesses. One of the small business owners gets up there and says:

"My company makes artificial limbs, and I just can't find the words to tell you had good President Bush has been for my business."

1. Wow.. what a statement! Anybody who could use this on Kerry's campaign?
It really is damning, but in a way unuseable... It just leaves you speechless because of the connotation!

9. Cut from White House transcript!
Edited on Sat Aug-14-04 12:57 PM by MetaTrope
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/08/20040813-7.html

Bush talks to a tortilla maker, a cookie dough manufacturer and a tree grower, and then the transcript reads:

Okay, hold on. We've got more work to do here. We've got more work to do. Right, Vail?

MR. HORTON: Yes, sir.

THE PRESIDENT: Vail Horton. I want you to hear this story. This is a fabulous story of an entrepreneur. Tell us your story, Vail.

* * * * *

THE PRESIDENT: One thing you do have is a heart and a soul and the desire to improve yourself. And I hope your business does well.

Listen, what a fantastic country, isn't it, where somebody has got a dream and says, I'm going to overcome obstacles and work to realize my dream. He's expanding, he's growing. The tax relief has helped on the investment side. I'll tell you why. Because people can take a tax deduction on the investment they make when they buy a piece of his equipment. In other words, it's stimulated demand for his products. And this guy is going to make it. There's no doubt in my mind. (Applause.) Thanks for coming.

And so Vail Horton, member of the Small Business Leaders for Bush-Cheney '04 Steering Committee, fails utterly to get his place in history! :eyes:

10. Unbelievable
Those asterisks appear to be the only redaction (God, I'm getting to hate that word) in the whole transcript. The event was so scripted that someone must not have realized the irony until after it was over. The "questions" asked were comical and some weren't even questions. This was not good warm up for the debates.

12. Thanks for the welcome.
I feel very much at home here.

I couldn't resist the opportunity to let a Bush supporter know how badly they were used. I sent this to Vail Horton in e-mail.

"We're sorry the White House redacted your entire statement on their web site transcript. Your business success must be as embarrassing to them as those flag draped coffins."

This story should have legs, no pun intended, if the media wants to pick up on it.

Breaking Barriers
To say Vail Horton’s life has been building up to his new venture, KEEN™ Mobility would not be untrue.

Born without legs, Horton was told by doctors at age four he would likely spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. He grew up hearing the certainty of having to use a wheelchair for mobility, and not just once. Undaunted, Horton has continued to use crutches, vigorously resisting doctors advice.

-- snip --

A born problem solver, Horton has created a new company to help solve his mobility dilemma, and offer mobility to everyone.

“We are not just selling crutches,” said Horton, CEO and Chairman of Keen Mobility. “We’re selling mobility and freedom to millions of people worldwide who are suffering from the painful inadequacies of health aids.”

14. There is a rumor they are going to have some
of these artificial limb recipients at the Repug convention.

Supposedly, Saddam cut the arms off lots of people--and the great wonderful Americans have provided artificial limbs for these people.

More propoganda to try to convince the world that they should love us now.
