A question about Florida and Michigan
I don't know Michigan politics that well, but in Florida, the lines between the parties zig zag dangerously. Is it possible that the decision to buck the rules, was managed by Republican string pullers?

It seems like the same folk that were quite happy to push this are also quite happy to falsify what went on and who was for it. They also seem to bring it up when it is most likely to cause disruption in the Democratic party. I think we have a few wolves in the fold. Worse than just DINO's, more like the freepers that creep into our debates here.

Is this a wild theory?

3. Incredibly Wild
My experience is that there are no zig zagging lines in Michigan.

The two party's are clearly delineated.

Doesn't mean the voters are, however.

Home of the Reagan Democrats.

4. In 2006, we had a string of Republicans changing to run as Democrats
because they wanted to get elected in Florida. Many of the Dems in the states government are just DINO.

5. to #4 and OP
Yes, FDP leaders and legislaters are primarily DINOs. Rank and file is about 50/50, but progressives and liberals have little voice, and are effectively shut out of the party and process.

Most emphatically though, FDP and state Dem legislaters were not forced into this by the Republicans, they led the charge - ie: introduced the bill, and all but one voted for it, and made jokes about a "good faith" charade to fix the problem.

Several reasons:
1) They wanted to be "important" and "relevant".
2) They wanted to give an early boost to hillary, were willing to gamble our votes to do so.
3) Wanted to force a fight with the DNC (primarily Dean)- again willing to lose our (rank and file) votes to do so.

Since then, they have repeatedly lied and spun - blaming republicans, blaming Dean, blaming Obama. Not a one has admitted any blame themselves (which is where the blame lies)... last few months has been CYA mode. media has dutifully repeated the lies... it's sickening. Very few people know the true story, and are astonished when they're told how the State Party elites so carelessly and thoughtlessly gambled our votes away.

6. I knew they weren't forced into it
You are correct in what you said. I don't blame Dean, certainly not Obama (Hell, he didn't have ANYTHING to do with this, so I wonder how people ended up blaming HIM?), not even the rules committee who actually made the decision.

WE, the people of Florida, willingly went to the polls and elected these people. In my case (being a progressive liberal), I had little say in the matter.

As a prime example, the race for our state House Representative was won by Maria Sachs. She ran for Anne Gannon's seat in 2006. There was a primary, during which a little known progressive named Harriet Lehrman ran against Maria Sachs for the nomination.

My husband and I loved Ms. Lehrman. She was progressive and wonderful and liberal and got her ass handed to her on a plate because Maria Sachs has GOBS of money and no one had heard of Harriet Lehrman, except those people who paid attention to these things.

Maria Sachs LOVED Jeb Bush, helped his campaign in 2000 and was a Republican at that point. She switched to a Dem in 2005 when she began to run for the State House. And she got elected because everyone was mad at Republicans. And she went cheerleading the effort to move the primary, despite my emails and phone calls asking her and my State Senator (Ted Deutsch, another DINO), practically BEGGING them not to vote for moving the primary.

Floridian politics is so screwed up!
