Puerto Rico Poll: Clinton 51 percent, Obama 38
Puerto Rico Poll: Clinton 51 percent, Obama 38

By Al Giordano

A new poll published by the daily http://www.vocero.com/noticias.asp?s=Locales&n=113365">El Vocero

in Puerto Rico, which holds its primary on Sunday, is out. For those that can’t read Spanish, here is the result:

Clinton: 51 percent
Obama: 38 percent

If Obama maintains that floor of 38 percent, he’ll get at least 24 of the 55 pledged delegates out of the island, which is more than sufficient to keep him on target for clinching the nomination next week.

Also of interest: A full fifty percent of those surveyed have no intent to vote in Sunday’s primary, hinting that it could be a low-turnout event. (If those that did answer the poll that say they are undecided don’t vote, the final percentage would be Clinton 57, Obama 43.)

8. You live in a dream world where the popular vote matters after 90% of the process is over
Newsflash: It doesn't. Neither campaign worked on getting out "Votes" in certain states and hillary's math doesn't include the caucuses or any votes in Michigan.

In other words, it's moronic math for people with little critical thinking skills.

11. Actually if there is a low turnout in Puerto Rico her gain in popular vote will be minimal
Edited on Wed May-28-08 01:21 PM by thewiseguy
This poll means bad news for Hillary. At this point she is concerned about the popular vote.

25. I was actually referring to gains via delegates....
Edited on Wed May-28-08 01:31 PM by prodn2000
A 15-20% win in PR will award her a larger share of the 55 delegates, right?

But keep saying things like:

Dreamworld
Newsflash
Moronic
People with little critical thinking skills...

Nice and civil, right?

Edited to add a question mark

29. Any gains she makes this weekend, including the potential
scenarios of seating FL/MI, she will still be over 180-200 delegates from reaching the nomination. With 197 Superdelegates remaining undeclared.

The problem wasn't the voters Clinton spoke of, the white working class. In case the group she specified, no college, they both lose to McCain by 7. Here is their differential to McCain with the subgroups of
white working class

14. I do think
I do think that it will be a low-turnout. It has been too long since a democratic primary held any importance in PR and up to a few weeks ago people were confused about how it would all happen. First we were told that it would be a Caucus then a primary and we didn't know where the funds would come from. It was kind of sloppy at first and that will have a noticeable effect on voter turnout.

28. This primary doesn't hold any importance.
The election is decided. Hillary said after Super Tuesday that Obama would do better over the next few and she'd make it up in her firewall on March 5. Then Obama won 11 in a row, and Hillary came back and gained a mere 4 delegates on March 5. Since then, everything has gone about as expected and it hasn't made a difference. This is just mop-up time.

She's got to win all the remaining primaries & steal at least 10 other delegates from Obama to win the nomination.

Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and Cuba were all the spoils of the Spanish-American War...If we are going to treat them as a colony we should think about granting them independence like we did Cuba and the Philippines...

Or better yet, how many electoral votes does this territory have. You know electoral college votes are the most important "METRIC" in the Democratic race!
