Bush in Las Vegas
I was not home when Bush spoke, but Channel 8 (KLAS) broadcast his speech. I have looked at the tape a couple of times and have come to a few conclusions:

1. He tried to write his own speech. Pathetic.

2. Half the people sitting behind him are not clapping.

3. The people I recognize from the Kerry rally, are not clapping.

4. Nu-kuuuu-ler.

5. Crowd shots were limited because not all people were clapping.

6. No signs, flags, no enthusiasm from crowd.

7. Rambling, rambling, rambling.

8. Barely acknowledged our governor, who sold us out on Yucca
Mountain.

9. He is trying to speak freely, with minor notes.
Pathetic.

10. Trying to justify the war.

11. Speech content....pathetic. Run on sentences.....um, um,
stammering, stammering, jokes about his mom, lounging on the
podium.

12. When people stand and clap, not everyone is clapping and
standing.

13. Approx. 1,000 protesters outside. 1,000 people
inside.

14. Attempted to explain the Colorado River Project, how drought
works, and the value of water. Duh! This is Nevada. We
already know this.

15. People not crowding in to shake his hand.

16. Only one Secret Service hovering near him. Kerry had three..

17. Every attendee had a chair. Everyone was seated. Even the
did not get out of his chair.

He just said that the country needs someone who speaks plainly and honors the commitment of our government to those who wear the uniform.
A lot of laughs from the crowd.....yeah right, speaks plainly.

Bush is looking frustrated and is stammering a lot more than before.

If I have missed something, please feel free to add to this.

1. I been noticing that a lot
people laughing at him. While he stammers, or redundantly goes around the same word without ever expanding on it.

2. I'd say his next career
could be as a stand-up comedian, then I remembered: he's not funny.

3. Hey, Vegas!!!
:hi:

I lived in Henderson back in 1994-95. They had just imploded the Dunes Hotel, and they were getting the asbestos out of the landmark so they could implode it, too. They had started working on the flyover for Flamingo Avenue, and the Stupec Tower (which we called the "Stupid Tower") look like a giant tree stump. And that summer, a strong storm blew down most of the sign in front of the Hilton.

I'm sure that if I went back today, I wouldn't recognize the place.

4. Las Vegas has grown!!!!!
There is no gap in land between Green Valley & Henderson. I-215 and 95 at Henderson is getting it's own fly-over. Lake Mead Drive is now I-215. I have been here since 89 and there are housing developments all the way to the Mt. Charleston cut off. Floyd Lamb State Park is
not in the middle of no-where. unbelievable growth.

5. I Worked At the Kmart in Henderson
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 04:27 PM by CO Liberal
On Racetrack Road. There was nothing across the street from it, but I'm sure there is now.

We lived in Overton for a short while, and used to drive out to the Valley of Fire State Park every chance we got.

6. Racetrack!
My school is near there. You would not recognize that area either. Sue Morrow Elem. is behind K-Mart. I am at Dooley. Houses go all the way Brown Jr. High to Wagon Wheel to where Old Vegas was. It is built up on both sides of 95. There is a water treatment plant on Equestrian and Magic Way. New High school, Foothill, at College and 95 as well as a branch of the community college. Development all the way up Boulder Highway.....in a couple of years, it will be all the way to Rail Road Pass. Where did your kids go to school?

7. They Didn't
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 04:45 PM by CO Liberal
My kids stayed in NJ with their mother - my first wife. It was just Mrs. CO Liberal and me.

We lived at the Gateway Apartments on Center Street, if I remember correctly. And for a while, I worked at two of the AM/PM mini-marts.

I remember driving home from the Kmart on Racetrack the nights I didn't have to work at the AM/PM. It was a lot of nothing back then.

8. And...here's the totals (not scientific) for the Vegas visits
Kerry:

Enthusiastic come-one, come-all supporters inside the T&M: 15,000+
Number of cowed, pathetic protesters outside: 3

Bush:

Unenthusiastic invitation-only supporters inside: 1,000
Incredibly vocal protesters outside: 1,000

Yet, the pundits all put Nevada in the bush column.

10. Reminding people in Las Vegas of the importance of water?!?!
This is a joke, right?

Looks like the Farewell Tour isn't going too well for the Simian Dauphin.

11. A question for Maynard - is this going to be on CSPAN or similar?
This could be right up (down?) there with the Unity Conference speech!

14. I wish.
I haven't heard if it will be replayed. This is something the Republican Party will probably want to send to the bottom of Lake Mead. The Repug guy said that the Dems were trying to compare apples with oranges. OK. They didn't cover all of Kerry's speech the way they did Bush's. I should contact KLAS and find out. I do have it on my own VCR tape. It was so pathetic. He was in and out of Las Vegas in under 2 hours. They asked the reporter
that was on the tarmac how big the crowds were at the airport and he replied that there were no crowds.

15. tell me how to digitize and I will do it.
I am going to put Larry King on the tape right after the "speech"

I saved the tape of Bush with Russert and Cheney with Russert. I like to go back and laugh. I am leaving for the evening, so if I don't reply back immediately, that is why. I just need to know how to digitize it.
