Can you admit when your candidate is wrong?

I have tried my best to stay relatively neutral in this race. While I am mildly supporting Obama, if you do a search on my recent posts in this forum you will see that I have defended both candidates when I've found it important to do so.

Clinton screwed up today. Badly. I have been involved in politics for 25 years, and I've never heard anything quite like this from a Democrat. However, she has done the right thing and apologized for it. Clinton supporters, you need to take her lead and admit that what she did was wrong. If you are going to continue to defend these statements, then I can only assume that you would defend ANYTHING that came out of her mouth. That is not only unwise, but dangerous.

I urge you to take a step back from the computer and reflect for a moment. Clinton's statements' are indefensible. She did the right thing today by apologizing. It is time for you to follow suit.

1. It's not an apology if it has conditions. And it wasn't to Obama.

2. Yes, I can and have.

However - she didn't apologize. She was merely sorry to the Kennedy's IF they were offended. No reference to Obama, and no out right - hey, I messed up.

4. I agree, this was a mistake but it was a very, very bad one...
an awful one...an unforgiveable one. She and I are the same age. I would guess she watched the horrible RFK news on TV as I did... a callow college kid. It is imprinted on my mind...I can tell you everything I heard and saw that day...to invoke it now is just disgusting to me...having lived through it as she did. This woman has ice in her veins and it really scares me.

6. She should have simply said, "Life turns on a dime."
Instead she reached for historical data. Which is a disastrous thing to do in this campaign.

It was a thoughtless thing to say.

8. Ummm. This needs much more than an "apology"! Sorry.
Hillary was baiting this for a very long time. Her apology rings hollow right now. She gave A LOT OF NUT CASES A "Good" idea. SHE IS totally despicable!

Bottom line: I WILL NEVER FORGIVE HER IF SOMETHING DRASTIC HAPPENS!

9. Oh, GIVE IT A REST. She pimped assasination as a reason for her...
to continue until August!

She should be locked up. She is dangerous and should not be allowed around anyone but her family and her supporters--let THEM deal with the crazy bitch and wonder everytime they took a drink of a diet coke whether she'd spiked it with something.

10. I understand the responses of Obama supporters in this thread. I really do.
However, this thread was directed specifically at those Clinton supporters who I still see defending her statements.

12. Clinton has made a campaign of dirt it was only a matter of time until she stepped over the line.
It is a pattern of behavior this is not an isolated incident. Her campaign has played in the dirt since Feburary and I think everyone has a right to hold this against her. We are looking to elect a president and we should remember that.

13. I don't care about her apology. I care about her mental state.
She needs to seek psychiatric help ASAP. She has officially gone off the deep end.

How sad, really. I mean that. This woman has pissed me off beyond belief, but this latest crap has convinced me that she needs medical help & she needs it now.

I think we just saw the end of her political career.

15. I've never been so personally offended by someone who I once
admired and respected.

What Clinton has been doing and saying over these past few months is NOT just politics as usual--she is deliberately saying and doing things that are directly hurtful--not particularly towards Obama--but to the people who support him.

20. Okay, I don't believe
Edited on Fri May-23-08 10:15 PM by Mz Pip
she really meant to be offensive, but I'm not a Hillary supporter. I guess I don't want to believe she meant to be offensive. But good grief, she's a politician who has played and capitalized on every faux pax that Obama has uttered. She has ridiculed him at every opportunity. Okay, I get it that it's politics and that's what they do, but good f*cking grief.

She wants a pass on this, along with evry other misstatement she has made. She "regrets"... Well, so do I. I regret that she said what she said because it creeped me out. I remember 1968 and to use RFK's assassination as a reason to continue on was tasteless.

Maybe she didn't mean it, but she really should have known better.
