we'd still be doing this."

Mellencamp Has No Problem With GOP

http://launch.yahoo.com/read/news.asp?contentID=219243

John Mellencamp has joined a coalition of musicians trying to unseat President Bush , but the rocker says that doesn't mean he has anything against Republicans.

"This is a protest. It's a protest about the abuse of what we feel are American values. And in this case it just so happens that, yes, this is a Republican president, and yes, the proceeds will go to efforts to defeat that Republican president."

Mellencamp has joining Bruce Springsteen , the Dixie Chicks and other musicians in an series of October concerts aimed at defeating President Bush's re-election. A July fund-raiser that raised $7.5 million for John Kerry 's presidential campaign included Mellencamp performing "Texas Bandito," which refers to Bush as "a cheap thug."

"I wasn't very politically active before this administration," Mellencamp said. "I had political views, but I always used to say, 'I don't want to hang on anybody's cross or stand on anybody's soapbox. Whatever I need to say, I'll say in my songs.' But things are different now."

1. Mellencamp should run for office...
He's very intelligent and is also an artist - not only a musician but a painter also. He has good sensibilities. :)

2. "I wasn't very politically active before this administration."
I think that sums up the views of millions of people. I think unregistered voters are going to come out of the woodwork like cockroaches this November. Dimson has pissed off many, many 'little' groups of people whose votes will add up on election day.

5. Well, it sums up my views...
I wasn't politically active at all before reading Al Franken's "Lies." When I realized that I didn't know who Karl Rove was, I knew that it was time to educate myself.

Kerry and Edwards will get the VOTES of people who were "politically active" during the Clinton years. The election will be WON as the result of votes from people who were NOT and reached some sort of epiphany, some momentary flicker of "holy crap, what I do and say and who I vote for DOES make a difference."

3. Things are different now because for the first time in our history,
almost every policy decision and action are designed solely to reward patrons or otherwise implement a far-right, PNAC, agenda: Conversely, almost nothing is done for the common good, for the good of the nation, because the core of the neocon ideology is mostly foreign to this Republic's founding principles and ideals, mostly foreign to its Constitution, to wit, it most closely resembles what would be found in a corporatist, theocratic, totalitarian police state.
