I know one...but he was going to vote for Bush anyway. I think everyone else who was in the middle just think Bush is a dick to be so scummy.

1. Keep up the pressure

We need to keep debunking them hard, or more people will believe them.

In a discussion with a Pug at the office, a conversation came up about No Child Left Behind being an un-funded mandate; the response from the Pug was Bill Clinton got blown in the White House, Let Osama go, and the SwiftVets bullshit.

So... that is the mentality of the opposition.

2. Oddly enough...None of my repub friends have brought it up.
Since they tend to pick up on all of the Kerry talking points, I assume they must not put much stock in the story .....Or Rush is on vacation

5. I agree - Repugs not grabbing it
The repugs I know that are still the Bush Laiden voting types either haven't picked up on it, think it's not that bad since there is Moveon.org or the newest one I got which was 'Well, I don't really care for George Bush, but I don't trust Kerry either because he's the most Liberal blah blah blah...

21. True republican....
He figures you should "pull yourself up by your own bootstraps" and not rely on HIS money for your survival. After all he "works hard for HIS money".

He's probably concerned you will become dependant upon his tips and become unmotivated to succeed in a free marketplace.

I'll class him a "Level 3 Conservative asshole"

Hang in there, serve his drinks as weak as his tips.

7. A met a vet this weekend who said he was with Kerry
During vietnam. Sounded just like the commercial. I was going door to door with sierra club which is a 527 so I had to stay impartial but I wanted to slap the guy!! I knew he was lying. When I asked him about Yucca Mountain which everyone else thought was horrible, he said, well it has to go somewhere! I said don't you care if while transporting it there if it spilled here in Reno? He couldn't answer that. He said he met kerry but couldn't tell me anything specific about him at all, thats why I think he was lying. Its like a certain group has a pack or something.

you could tear your hair out trying to reason with people when they belive rubbsih like this.

These Swiftboat Veterans are doomed to rot in hell along with the others

10. Yes, a vet who stopped in at the Kerry headquarters
By the end of our conversation, he had not only dissed Kerry, but the entire US Navy. He wasn't a very credible debater.

Her husband is retired Navy and he believed the whole sorry lie. I've been sending her stuff that debunks the lies, but I'm not sure if she believes it or not.

13. One of my dad's childhood friends.
He's a republican and voted for shrub in 2000, but after seeing shrub in action decided he wouldn't vote for him again. When I talked to my dad over the weekend I learned this friend believes the claims and was leaning back to bush. I sent my dad a link to Kerry's response to the ads.

"Dishonest and dishonorable" is how John McCain described the attack ad now appearing on television in several swing states, courtesy of the "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth." Dishonest because the men who appear in the ad make false claims about John Kerry's wartime conduct and decorations. Dishonorable because these men have waited three decades to publicize their slurs, with partisan motives, during a presidential campaign.

14. The only people I know who support this stuff
The only people I know who support this stuff are right wing ideologues to begin with.

The Swift Boat ad is preaching to the choir and outraging everybody else.

19. No, but the "sponsors" of this crap are certainly still trying
Edited on Mon Aug-09-04 10:24 AM by Cheesehead
The ad played twice during the local news (Green Bay, WI station) last night. There are plenty of wingnuts around here who will buy this nonsense, but luckily (for them) they aren't spouting it around me.

20. Not directly
but two friends of friends were on that bandwagon. My friends have presented them with the information but they choose to ignore it. Both of them are rabid right-wingers and would still vote for Bush if he grew horns and a tail. I have a feeling those are the only types who really believe this crap anyway.
