Bush Lost the Week Bigtime. Here's Why:
Edited on Sun Aug-08-04 09:24 PM by Tarheelhombre
Largest drop in consumer spending in three years. Oil prices reach record highs. Value of the U.S. Dollar plunging. Construction spending off. Shockingly low job growth in July (May and June figures also revised downward). Stock Market at new low for the year. McCain denounces smears against Kerry. Alan Keyes is the face of the Republican Party in Illinois. 54% of Americans say Bush doesn't deserve re-election in new polls. Huge crowds show up at Kerry-Edwards rallies. High profile Bushisms reinforce notion that President is mentally deficient. Awful week of casualties in Iraq.

22. Saying that Bush won the week ... doesn't make it so!
The situation is so bad for the neocons that they can't even bring themselves to acknowledge it.

I thought the Bush people were much smarter than this. I guess they got overconfident.

9. If I'm Remembering Correctly...
they all agreed that the terror alert and response changed the spotlight from Kerry's post convention campaign, and refocused the public on terrorism, which 'naturally' favors Bush. :puke:

I'll see if their is a transcript.

21. Most dont pay attention to facts
Especially Matthews. WIth him, it's all about which campaign is spewing the better rhetoric. He changes with the wind.

4. all this who won the week
is inside baseball nonsense. Its a bunch of pundits pontificating because they have nothing better to discuss. Kerry had a good week no matter what these blowhards say.

14. zackly
WHEN do they EVER disuss anyting but ephemera, poliical graffitti, and horserace

WHEN do they discuss Kerry's stance on Iraq, other than to disparage it, and demand to hear his plans, when ANYbody who's honest knows that it's BUSH who's come very close to Kerry's CLEARLY delineated plan, which has been out there since when, at the latest, last fall?

that 12-0 landslide couldn't be a better indication of just how completely detached from reality this bunch is.

so even the Xtian Science Monitor woman is drinking the coolaid, huh?

god, assuming things stay the way they are, how SWEET will it be to see all these venal cretins try to justify their complete and utter misreading of the political scene?

17. I saw that. I don't think they read newspapers. :)
Whenever I hear really stupid pronouncements like that I think back to the early days of the primaries. The main area of disagreement among a lot of these same pundits was whether Lieberman or Gephardt was the likely nominee.

18. Ha! I remember that too. What a bunch of morons.
I forget how out of touch they are with the rest of the world. Glad you mentioned that. Lieberman was a shoo-in for the Dem nomination after Gore said he wouldn't run again. :eyes:

Sheesh.

19. The Chimp is getting desperate for a poll boost....beware!
He did finally tell the truth when he said he wants to destroy America the other day. Good to see him finally tell the truth.

Look out for some nasty stuff to come out of the Ashcroft/Cheney/Rove/Ridge Fear Machine. After all, we are two weeks away from the GOP convention. They will want something to get us all teary-eyed about.

26. Prison torture was all over news again too- Abu Ghraid and Gitmo & Iraq
This was not a good week for Bushco for the reasons mentioned above plus there was a lot of media attention to prisoner abuses again. CBS news last night had the story of the current Iraq prison abuse where the U.S. troops were told to leave it alone.

The only development favoring Bushco at all last week was the Swift Boat vets smear of Kerry which fortunately got swiftly debunked by McCain. However the RW media doesn't want to let that go and will try to keep this in the forefront again this week along with the terror investigations since they apparently don't have anything else going for them.
