1. Probably a tossup
between Holbrooke and Clark.

4. He's a great choice
but Holbrooke is no slouch, either. Professional diplomat, Peace Corps director, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Canadian affairs, ambassador to Germany...

3. I don't know who he "will" appoint
But I think Clark has a grasp on world history and international affairs that is truly unique. You really can't fully appreciate this until you read some of his writings. Again, his grasp of history is phenomonal. History DOES repeat itself, so it's important to understand the lessons of the past.

Most underrated, underappreciated resource we have. Great common sense, voted against the war for good reasons (he's the one who demanded the summary of intel for congress, and he actually read all of it, then voted against the war because the intel was weak.)

Grand old man, beloved in Florida, too.

On edit: oops, meant to reply to the general thread, sorry.

15. No can do
There's that 10 year rule. Besides, SecDef would be a waste of his nearly unparalleled understanding about the world. He'd be a much better diplomat than warmonger.

12. I'd like
Richardson to stay a governor. We need more governors.

I lost respect for George Mitchell when he went to work for the tobacco industry.

Madeleine Albright could make a comeback too.

14. All of those are good choices, but I prefer Bill Richardson
Richardson has prior diplomatic experience and he doesn't have the baggage that some of the other choices have.

remember he also worked with him a long time in the Senate, and Mitchell has added even more to his resume since he left the Senate.

23. and Kerry said he would make Northern Ireland a priority
Mitchell has experience with NI and NI is sadly getting to be a hotbed again, Kerry seems to have the right position on this issue thankfully.

22. Clark
Earned the spot....speaking for Kerry so much and all.

But Holbrooke will probably get it cause Kerry never seems to make the right decision anyway...but instead makes the popular decision. Usually it comes back to bite him in the ass a few weeks later.

Stahl: "We have heard that half a million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And you know, is the price worth it?"

Albright: "I think this is a very hard choice, but the price - we think the price is worth it."

26. It won't be Wes Clark
Edited on Mon Aug-09-04 07:04 AM by Perky
The problem with Clark is that he would be following another ex-general into foggy bottom. I don't think that that would be a wise move when Kerry has pledged to fix things with Europe.

I am not saying that he would not be a fine Choice... I just think Europe is clamoring for a new approach.

Can you imagine the headliness: Kerry taps yet another general to replace Colin Powell.

29. Biden or Clark
Clark may want to be Secretary of Defense. Or, he may want to be George C. Marshall, in which case he might want to be Secretary of State. I think Holbrooke, Biden or Clark would all be good choices, especially considering that under Kerry, we will actually have a Secretary of State, for the first time in 4 years.

30. I want Clark and i'de hate to lose Biden in the Senate
The top names thrown around are, Holebrook, Mitchell, Biden and Clark. Ive seen all except Clark asked specifically if they wanted the Sec. of State post. Mitchell said he would think about it, Holebrook said he was willing, Biden said he would love the job.
