The Coming Republican Revolution !!!
From Pat Buchanan's 'Civil War Looming in the GOP?'
May 24th, 2004

<snip>

In the aftermath of 9-11, Bush stood at 90 percent approval. His hold on his party blanketed rising opposition among the rank-and-file to his policies. Now, with Iraq reaching quagmire status and Bush's approval falling to where it is possible he does not survive November, long-suppressed dissent has begun to break through.

We may be at the beginning of another Goldwater moment in the Grand Old Party, like 1960, when the grassroots began to rumble and rise in rebellion, and reject Eisenhower Republicanism while still liking Ike.

What are the issues that can sunder the party in a Bush second term or in a post-Bush era? Immigration is the most explosive, as is seen in the stunning recoil to Bush's amnesty early this year and the hasty abandonment of the plan by the White House. A crunch is coming as Bush, Rove and the moderate Republicans are still determined to push ahead with amnesty, to compete with Democrats for the growing Hispanic vote. This could tear the party apart nationally, as it has already begun to do in Arizona and Utah.

And...

... with endless wars looming in Iraq and Afghanistan, the neo-imperialism of the neoconservatives who beat the war drums for the invasion will be on the table next year. If Bush does not win in a sweep and silence critics by his domination of the party, the GOP may be headed for a 1960's-style civil war. Let it come.

Primary upheaval roils Platte Republicans

<snip>

Platte County's growth often draws comparisons to Johnson County, and they now each have a public political split in their predominate political parties.

The ouster of two incumbent Platte County commissioners in Tuesday's primary showcased the common ground – a sharp ideological division between conservative and moderate Republicans.

“I don't believe the Republican Party in Platte County will ever be the same,” said Michael Short, county commissioner since 1995 and a metro area civic leader in matters such as the Bistate Commission for Union Station.

Calif. GOP Opposes Stem Cell Proposition

<snip>

Not all Republicans followed Sunday's party line, which will be disseminated to Republican clubs and organizations for voter outreach.

"I think it's time the Republican Party take a more humanistic attitude toward this issue," said Dr. James Mertzel, a San Fernando Valley dentist addressing his party colleagues. Mertzel said afterward, "If you had an illness fatal to one of your children, you'd look at anything to find a cure for it."

Keyes' candidacy will expose rift within GOP

<snip>

At one point during last week's Republican leadership gathering in Chicago, the debate over conservative activist Alan Keyes grew so contentious that journalists standing outside the closed doors heard - and reported - the shouting.

The Illinois Republican State Central Committee later barred reporters from the entire floor where they were meeting to choose their party's new candidate for the U.S. Senate.

But with Keyes' candidacy likely to become official Sunday, it will be much tougher for Republican leaders to hide the internal strife in their divided party.

**************************************************************************

Have you guys been seeing more of this?

Buchanan mentioned this coming civil war on a couple of shows over the past couple of weeks, and every rePuke panelist nodded in agreement when he said that this war was coming, win or lose in November.

Here's to their losing in November, and having one big, ugly, civil war!

1. I know many moderate Republicians who really
dislike the evangelicial right turn the Rep party is taking. Now is the time for the Dems to accept/appear favorable to the moderates and we will roast the right wing repo's in 2004.

10. Kevin Phillips in Harpers
talks about republican moderates ready to rebel against the cultural conservatives. There aren't many of them, but it could make a difference if they just withheld their votes.

2. Buchanan and Nader
It seems Buchanan is to the right what Nader is to the left
(or Buchanan would be if he were to launch another Presidential bid and really lash out at Bush's drift to the "center.")

And strangely, Buchanan and Nader so at opposite poles on most issues, are closer together on the issues of protectionism than either of them are to Bush or Kerry.

8. Second Question: Do Educated Moderate Republicans Realize...
that these right-wing X-ian freaks are gonna bring down not only their party, but their\our entire country if left to their own devices???

4. It happened in the Rep primary
here in the 1st congressional district of Nebraska. A decent moderate publican got hammered from 2 or 3 extreme RW groups (Club For Growth was one) and the extremist evangelical candidate skated in. I think the Dems wouldn't have had a chance had the moderate won but now we have a GREAT chance of gaining an open seat in congress. None of the moderate to conservative pugs I know like the their candidate so it looks really good.

6. Bring This Up To Your Republican Friends.
A revolution discussed can become a revolution real.

I think that some of my Republican friends, and yes, I do have some, would probably feel a lot more comfortable abandoning Bush if they felt they weren't alone.

7. We need one party rule for about eight years
with the Democratic Party being that one party.

It's the only way to salvage something from the mess the Republicans have wrought.

9. The best part of a Kerry victory would be
watching the GOP implode. They've become so radical, so ideolgical, so beholden to the Southern Fundy base that the crack up is looming.

11. We have a lying, cheating repug party and governor up here in Alaska
and I have NEVER seen so much dissent until now. I think they expect the party to goose step however and too many don't want to. I also think a bunch of repubs up here are going to vote anything but. It could be fun.

13. The GOP is essentially running against the tide of modernity
The repressive retro social philosophy, the anti-science agenda. This stuff can win in the short term - but long term you can't stifle progress. Many who vote GOP are "libertarian" in outlook and they tend to overlook a lot of the Fundy social agenda. It is getting increasingly harder for them to do so.

12. I hope (and know) we win....
if we do win in November, Republicans will not see the White House again for a while. The Republican Revolution is starting in my own family. However, it is different than the one that Buchanon is talking about....spending. My uncle doesn't approve of the spending that Bush is doing and thinks he should be trying to balance the budget. I think that Scarboring made a point about this on one of those shows from the DNC. It's happening and hopefully Kerry and friends capitalize on it.

16. Remember This Oldie ??? - From Their First 'Revolution' !!!
REPUBLICAN CONTRACT WITH AMERICA - 1994

As Republican Members of the House of Representatives and as citizens seeking to join that body we propose not just to change its policies, but even more important, to restore the bonds of trust between the people and their elected representatives.
That is why, in this era of official evasion and posturing, we offer instead a detailed agenda for national renewal, a written commitment with no fine print.

This year's election offers the chance, after four decades of one-party control, to bring to the House a new majority that will transform the way Congress works. That historic change would be the end of government that is too big, too intrusive, and too easy with the public's money. It can be the beginning of a Congress that respects the values and shares the faith of the American family.

Like Lincoln, our first Republican president, we intend to act "with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right." To restore accountability to Congress. To end its cycle of scandal and disgrace. To make us all proud again of the way free people govern themselves.

On the first day of the 104th Congress, the new Republican majority will immediately pass the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government:

FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress;
SECOND, select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
THIRD, cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;
FOURTH, limit the terms of all committee chairs;
FIFTH, ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;
SIXTH, require committee meetings to be open to the public;
SEVENTH, require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase;
EIGHTH, guarantee an honest accounting of our Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting.
Thereafter, within the first 100 days of the 104th Congress, we shall bring to the House Floor the following bills, each to be given full and open debate, each to be given a clear and fair vote and each to be immediately available this day for public inspection and scrutiny.

1. THE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT: A balanced budget/tax limitation amendment and a legislative line-item veto to restore fiscal responsibility to an out- of-control Congress, requiring them to live under the same budget constraints as families and businesses. (Bill Text) (Description)

2. THE TAKING BACK OUR STREETS ACT: An anti-crime package including stronger truth-in- sentencing, "good faith" exclusionary rule exemptions, effective death penalty provisions, and cuts in social spending from this summer's "crime" bill to fund prison construction and additional law enforcement to keep people secure in their neighborhoods and kids safe in their schools. (Bill Text) (Description)

3. THE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT: Discourage illegitimacy and teen pregnancy by prohibiting welfare to minor mothers and denying increased AFDC for additional children while on welfare, cut spending for welfare programs, and enact a tough two-years-and-out provision with work requirements to promote individual responsibility. (Bill Text) (Description)

4. THE FAMILY REINFORCEMENT ACT: Child support enforcement, tax incentives for adoption, strengthening rights of parents in their children's education, stronger child pornography laws, and an elderly dependent care tax credit to reinforce the central role of families in American society. (Bill Text) (Description)

5. THE AMERICAN DREAM RESTORATION ACT: A S500 per child tax credit, begin repeal of the marriage tax penalty, and creation of American Dream Savings Accounts to provide middle class tax relief. (Bill Text) (Description)

6. THE NATIONAL SECURITY RESTORATION ACT: No U.S. troops under U.N. command and restoration of the essential parts of our national security funding to strengthen our national defense and maintain our credibility around the world. (Bill Text) (Description)

7. THE SENIOR CITIZENS FAIRNESS ACT: Raise the Social Security earnings limit which currently forces seniors out of the work force, repeal the 1993 tax hikes on Social Security benefits and provide tax incentives for private long-term care insurance to let Older Americans keep more of what they have earned over the years. (Bill Text) (Description)

8. THE JOB CREATION AND WAGE ENHANCEMENT ACT: Small business incentives, capital gains cut and indexation, neutral cost recovery, risk assessment/cost-benefit analysis, strengthening the Regulatory Flexibility Act and unfunded mandate reform to create jobs and raise worker wages. (Bill Text) (Description)

9. THE COMMON SENSE LEGAL REFORM ACT: "Loser pays" laws, reasonable limits on punitive damages and reform of product liability laws to stem the endless tide of litigation. (Bill Text) (Description)

10. THE CITIZEN LEGISLATURE ACT: A first-ever vote on term limits to replace career politicians with citizen legislators. (Description)

Further, we will instruct the House Budget Committee to report to the floor and we will work to enact additional budget savings, beyond the budget cuts specifically included in the legislation described above, to ensure that the Federal budget deficit will be less than it would have been without the enactment of these bills.

Respecting the judgment of our fellow citizens as we seek their mandate for reform, we hereby pledge our names to this Contract with America.

THAT revolution... is coming to an end.

19. They want to move even further to the right? That's funny!
Extremism is what will lead to Bush's defeat and instead of moving left they are talking about moving right?

The conservatives have already lost the culture war, by moving right they would lose everything else.
