Tony and I went to a rally for our Congressional candidate, Dr. David Gill, which was held in the home of the county chairman. The chairman's brother-in-law is a Republican, but was there because of his wife (the chairman's sister), a Democrat. Any way, I got to talk to this gentleman, and discovered that he was also part of the 'brown water Navy' in Vietnam, and the swift-boat-vet's commercial has absolutely infuriated him; even better, he says that the vast majority of local VFW and American Legion members here are also pissed as hell about it. He said that he was 'leaning Bush' until he heard about the commercial, but will now vote for Kerry.

If that's the reaction in my Republican-dominated area, I think the Bush campaign has miscalculated badly, folks; this is blowing up in their faces.

6. I think they're going to
piss off a lot of vets from VietNam and earlier. Those guys that were really out "in the shit" know full well that medals weren't passed out, as they seem to be now, but had to be earned.

11. Hmm? Maybe that's why Kerry/Edwards are leading
among Vets, now? And not too terribly long ago ..Kerry was behind by the double digits.

There's a thread on it around here somewhere.

7. Excellent!
Any Nam vet with two firing neurons, especially grunts, legs and other workingman types, should be hella pissed at this turn of affairs. This whole thing is, in truth, an assault on the service of them all and the mechanisms that recognized their merit and valor.

Hey, your avatar: If that is a picture of you and the Tone-man together, I would have to say that the two of you are really being cruel to single women, going out looking like that and then telling them the two of you are an item. How many break out in tears, immediately upon learning the facts? :D

9. As well it should..
"If that's the reaction in my Republican-dominated area, I think the Bush campaign has miscalculated badly, folks; this is blowing up in their faces."

It's not true...and it's a blatant attack on all military.

Didn't think about that one, did they?

12. These Swift Boat Veterans for Bush are traitors...
they've sold out their entire band of brothers for AWOL. Fuck them. Bush is pissing on all vets by yanking their well-earned benefits and these turncoats are supporting it because they probably don't have to stand in line at the VA. They are a disgrace.

16. VA cuts =DNC Talking point
Hubby and I are both vets and when he was injured and being treated by the VA we felt those cuts first hand. Our co-pays went up, some meds were no longer covered and because of budget restraints they were delaying a much needed surgery in order to go back to work. We have a neighbor who is in worse financial shape than we were at the time and because of those cuts, he can't get anything done to better his care.

When trying to explain to Repubs how those cuts affected us personally and our neighbor I was told by two of them that it was nothing more than DNC talking points. I was like WTF!

Cyn:)

18. I read a (non-fiction) book about men who served in Nam a while back
...and one incident that stood out for me was when one of their camps was attacked, and a sign was partially knocked down.

Some wag of an officer decided to go pin a Purple Heart on it, trying to be clever. Needless to say, this same officer rose rather swiftly to the top of the "friendly frag" list for many units in the area.

Those grunts EARNED those awards. The audacity of BushCo to question their valor just goes to show how truly desperate they are, in this their final denouement.

Glad to see BushCo circling the bowl. It couldn't happen to a more evil bunch of a-wholes.
