Appeal to the woman voter
Do any of you see the indirect outreach/appeal to the female voter by the Kerry Campaign? Unintentional or Intentional, it seems a dominating theme.

Edwards obvious appeal to the female gender (I like Clark)

Teresa obiviously is going over really well with women, Repuke women even like her

Elizabeth Edwards is easily a non threatening woman who is to be respected as well as related to by the woman struggling with her figure ( and that means ALL of us )

Two adorable Edwards pre school children

Three beautiful classy well educated young women, one of who tells a great story about her dad giving mouth to mouth to a rodent/pet.

Two gorgeous sons that seem classy and educated

Kerry appeals to women

The fact that Kerry threw back his head and laughed when Teresa was on stage and chanted "They want 4 more years of hell!" and then also chanted with the audience "3 more months". Kerry then WARMLY HUGGED AND KISSED his wife on stage. This goes over REALLY WELL WITH WOMEN. What woman doesn't appreciate a man that isn't afraid to stand behind his wife when she is speaking her mind and actually LAUGHS and supports her and is openly and warmly affectionate with her?
This is the stuff that woman pick up on and this is what will warm more women to Kerry even more. There is such a stark contrast between their relationship and 43' with Stepford wife.

The Nurses endorsed Kerry
The Teachers Unions Endorsed Kerry
Pro Choice is Kerry's

The whole campaign theme of a "Positive outlook and approach" is more appealing to the female voter in general,

The adorable 12 year old on the stage during the convention

I don't know, I think that this group is going to be overwhelminly appealing to the female voter - and we afterall, are the largest voting block in the country.

When Kerry needs to show some strength, he is beginning to more so now than he has in the past. So, his appearing to be a more thoughtful considerate man will go a long way.

Edwards sure has "star" power to some women to, I remember reading on how a long time Republican voting husband and wife went to the polls and the wife "said" that she was voting for Nixon, but instead in the privacy of the voting booth she voted for Kennedy, because he was so much more appealing than Nixon.

Edwards isn't having the overwhelming appeal that they thought he would have though....No great surprise to me! Clark would have been a better choice and HE would have helped more with the MALE voter.

What do you think?

1. Women in general are smarter.
I've concluded that since I realized/learned that there's a gender gap. And I think it's a smart move on Kerry's part, especially since the male gap twixt Kerry and Bush is significantly smaller.

2. There is a tremendous gap between what the repukes say
they will do for joe-sixpack and what they actually do, which is screw him as hard fast and long as they can. But he keeps going back for more...what is it, they are like the 'bitches' of the republican party or something. It's pathetic, really. Repukes tell them, I'll protect you from those big, bad wimmin gettin' into power over your life, and then proceed to screw them into the next universe once elected. But there is a selective blindess, a 'seeing a la carte' that these men have when it comes to politics, where they can't discern that it is their fat-cat daddies that are fcking them, not the feminazis.

3. I never understood just why these guys are so bitter.....
hey, life sucks for a lot of us a good part of the time, but this blaming of women for everything is just too pathetic.....

They just don't seem to "get" who is really working them over, and good. :)

4. Dole's big mouth didn't help them any
I think the comment about the muzzle for Theresa Heinz Kerry was one of the stupidest things to come out of a repub's mouth in this campaign. Kerry/Edwards would never say anything that ignorant.

5. I think that
there is alot of truth in what you say. However I don't think any of it is intentional to appeal to women. I believe John Edwars was picked for two reasons - he is a southern guy who balances out the ticket geographically and he came in second in the primaries. The issues is the reason that Kerry appeals to Nurses, Teachers and those of us who are pro-Choice. Kerry's relationship with Teresa, his great kids and step kids, Edward's good looks etc etc are all icing on the cake - they can use these things - but I don't really think it is really all that clculated - I think it is the way it is. However if Kerry had all these things and was wrong on the issues he wouldn't get my vote or any of my female friend's votes either. The other thing that really helps Kerry is that the incumbent is SUCH AN IDIOT.

6. The "idiot" is still doing too well in the polls.......
.....the entire world probably doesn't understand why there is STILL so much support for Bush in the United States. :(

Why can't these guys who STILL support Bush think about their lives and finally realize that Bush and his pals aren't going to make things better for them? Reagan played around with their lives, now Bush is, and they still seem to cry out for more punishment. :eyes:

Oh, yeah, the reason they don't have the jobs they want to is because of women, or minorities, or foreigners, the reason they don't get a tax break is because of those women, gays, minorities, etc, etc,........ :eyes:

7. I've pondered this and pondered it
and the only thing I can come up with is they don't want to admit they were wrong. It is beyond my comprehension why ANYONE except the ultra rich would support this man.

10. ultra-rich men and a lot of not-so-rich men
who mistakenly believe that they could also become ultra-rich and that's more likely to happen under a repug administration. That and the guns ..

8. There is another reason
I believe that people just believe what they want to believe.

While at work a co worker was talking about how the "news" isn't reporting the good things happening in Iraq, that they are just reporting the bad things, they looked at me and said "right?" I replied that there weren't enough hours in the day to report on all of the bad things going on in Iraq AND to report on the "good" things, if you want that then watch FOX. She replied "THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I'VE DONE, I JUST WATCH FOX NOW!"

BINGO.....IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU HEAR AND YOU WANT THE WORLD TO BE THE WAY THAT YOU WANT IT TO BE.....DON'T ACCEPT FACTS AND REALITY.
SHE DIDN'T

11. Never said it was intentional or calculated
at least not all of it any ways.... The thing is though, the Repukes wanted to "claim the NASCAR dads", they have info on every group and I have heard more than once that the women are the largest voting block, PERIOD and that the single working female is a group to specifically to reach out to.

Edwards may "balance" the ticket geographically, but when Clinton won, he wasn't concerned about the "balance", and he was the only one in the primaries when Clark dropped, there was NO COMPETITION, Clark actually showed stronger than Edwards up till the very end, but then Clark showed much more strength than Edwards in the upcoming states, especially in the West. No, Clark was in to replace Kerry, but when Kerry didn't need to be replaced and rebounded, then the use for Clark evaporated. I firmly believe that Edwards was chosen because he is charismatic and viewed as the future of the Democratic Party - PERIOD.

Furthermore, I believe Edwards was "ordained" as VP long before Kerry was solidly in the #1 spot. There was no way in Hell that Edwards could have ever seriously competed for Presidency with his lack of experience, but as #2, well he was a shoe in.

The female appeal to the vote may not all be "calculated" and/or intentional, but it is RECOGNIZED, if it isn't, then these campaign strategists are not worth what they are being paid.

If the Repubs can recognize the "Soccer Moms" and the "Nascar Dads" then I believe so can the Dems, but of course with different names.
Also, Bush has really alienated many of the groups such as the Nurses, Teachers, Pro Choice....Women don't want to send their children to war either... So in short, I believe that the Dems are discreetly and to some extent reaching out to the largest voting block in this country and I might add, very wisely.

12. Yes very wisely
generally speaking women vote for the Dems because of the issues and that was my point and frankly your implying that they picked Edwards because he is attractive to the females is a big fat freaking insult to women. Now some women might vote for a pretty face but most of us vote for the issues we are concerned about - that was my point. And by the way Edwards was not the only primary candidate left when Clarke dropped out.

13. Sorry, but I found it to be pretty true
I spent A LOT of time on the Kerry Board and the "women" were vehment about their support for Edwards and their basis was "He is charismatic" "He can deliver N. Carolina" and that sadly was about it! I challenged them time after time after time and they stuck to the mantra that experience didn't mean everything...."The vision is what is important." All of these "defenders of Edwards were female" Sorry, and there were a lot more "females" that based their opinions the same way on the same things for Edwards elsewhere. I, being female, was really insulted at the shallowness of their reasoning, but it boiled down to gushing. It is insulting, but there are alot of dumb men out there that vote for someone because they "appear to be the man's man" There are people out there that vote just because somebody says "God" frequently enough. There are people out there that vote because somebody either supports or doesn't support "gay marriage". They are a one issue voter. I met up with them to. Whatever is "insulting" or not "insulting" isn't the point, the point is that IT JUST IS.

As far as who was left in the primaries, if you consider the "walking dead" contenders, then I concede I was wrong.

Dean???? finished
Kucinich???? never started
Sharpton????? never started
Liebermann gone
Gephardt gone
Braun gone

who did I forget?

15. Why does everybody assume that women don't care about the issues?
I can see that you may not have intended it that way, but I was also a little offended by your first post. I am sick of hearing pundits go on about this. Whenever the topic of the female vote comes up, they talk about the sex-appeal of the candidate. I find it hard to believe that the majority of the women in this country are so clueless and featherbrained as to decide their vote based on the appearance of the candidates. Some may be, but not the majority. The best way to make the millions of single women go out to vote is to make them realize that four more years of Bush will really mean a federal abortion ban.

I think that the pro-choice and woman-friendly policies of Kerry and Edwards are a big part of their attractiveness to women. Men who respect women are attractive to women. Period.
