Right now Ben Stein is on CNN bad mouthing Springsteen and
saying that the country is in great shape, there should be no criticism of the administration, and the economy is in great shape. Now please, someone explain something to me that I've NEVER understood. Why is that horrid old man considered a celebrity? I'm serious, I hate that guy and I don't understand why he even gets any attention (except for making the occasional bad commercial).

Even the moderator, when he said the economy is in great shape, said "It is?".

5. Hey
I am a "droning science teacher" and it is a lot harder than it looks. First of all, you actually have to learn all that science, and then you have to practice, practice, practice that deadpan delivery. :silly:

9. I'm sure stein has a lot of education and a high IQ but
unfortunately as we all know ..it still doesn't take away greediness.
And I think that's what motivates these gop apologists.

In this case stein is going up against The Boss..I wonder who will come out the winner?}(

4. He's an idiot who thinks he's the most brilliant fellow
I remember he attacked Krugman (didn't even know Krugman was an economist) for failing to mention "Tobin's Q Ratio" in a eulogy/column on the death of James Tobin. Facts don't seem to phase Mr. Stein. He is, after all, another Nixon prodigy.

Ben Stein wrote a completely idiotic financial book called "Yes, You Can Time the Market." This former Nixonian, whose delightful presence bubbles up occasionally in the Woodward/Bernstein accounts of the Watergate era, has also written several other idiotic books and hosted a semi-entertaining television program called "Win Ben Stein's Money."

15. Oh, and here's a Krugman link about Ben Stein's "screed"
http://www.pkarchive.org/personal/KrugmanStein.html

"If I had to psychoanalyze Mr. Stein, I'd say that the idea that I am a serious academic economist deeply disturbs him. After all, if I know what I'm talking about in eulogizing James Tobin, the other things I've been saying in my column might be true, and the politicians Mr. Stein supports might be as dishonest as I claim.

Anyway, I knew Jim Tobin - whom I talked with at length just a few days before his death - a lot better than Mr. Stein. And I certainly know a lot more economics."

7. Ben Stein blasting Springstein!!??
that is a laugh. One man is a genius in his profession while the other is a pompous bore who may be best remembered, if at all, twenty years from now in reruns on the gameshow network.

12. I was watching a movie this morning and they
Edited on Sun Aug-08-04 03:11 PM by zidzi
were playing tapes of hitler's rise to power..with hitler exuding the merits of propoganda and saying screaming ..the German People only know what we want them to know.."Propoganda is what brought us to Power!"

Greed is their bottom line..history is trying to replay itself but the American People will not stand for it.

11. Stein shilling
In the last days of the '00 campaign, I got a call at work from an automated system featuring a recording of Ben Stein imploring the listener to get out and vote for Bush. He's partly responsible for the mess we are in.
