New Mexico Poll: Obama leads McCain by 9 points

Obama Leads McCain in Rasmussen Poll

-snip

Barack Obama (D): 50% (45) (44)
John McCain (R): 41% (42) (44)

Despite all of the "controversies" surrounding Obama in recent months, such as the bitter comment or his pastor Jeremiah Wright, it seems voters increasingly prefer Obama to the Republican opponent, John McCain.

New Mexico has been the closest state in the past two Presidential elections, with Gore edging out Bush and Bush narrowly defeating Kerry.

According to Rasmussen, the new Obama lead comes from more unity among Democrats now that the nominee is all-but-decided.

One reason for Obama's growing lead is that the number of fence-sitting Democrats has declined. A month ago, 14% of Democrats say they would vote for a third-party option or were undecided. That figure has fallen to 9% in the current survey

According to the poll, voters are most concerned with Iraq and the economy. Combined, the two issues are the most important issue to 59 percent of New Mexico voters. National security is a distant third, with only 10 percent of voters believing it is the most important issue this election cycle.

3. This is part of the reason
I don't want Richardson as the VP selection. We can win New Mexico without him.
