Will Bush pull off the Campaign Speech of his Career at the Convention?
Edited on Sat Aug-07-04 11:40 PM by opihimoimoi
"Damn Damn Damn, I gatta follow those guys?"

The Poor Bush....they are writing his speech now, trying to find the right words and phrases he can habdle without fucking up. Karen is going ballistic; Rove is pulling/losing hairs, Condi is practicing her frown. Oh Lordy,,,,the pressure is ON.

Bush knows he can not screw this one up. Lucky for him hardly anyone saw the Untiy speech and him falling apart.

But this Convention is PRIME TIME with an estamated 45,000,000 people anticipated to watch. He cannot muff it.

The ODDs show he won't pull it off.....he will try to act folksy and funny but in the end, people are tired of excuses and "Corners"...they want BEEF. and there is no beef in Bushes Stew.

2. The expectations for his speeches are always so low that
the media will be pushing how he hit a home run so he'll have the salesguys out there in his corner. All he has to do is not make any major gaffe's and thet's asking a lot from him. The fact is he has nothing to offer and I think people will see that no matter what they say. All he can offer is fear and more fear tomorrow.

5. It's really a shame the 'Unity' speech didn't happen in June.
Michael Moore could have released it as part of a double bill along with Fahrenheit.

Even when * tries his best, whatever THAT is, he always finds a way of coming off dumb, stupid, ignorant, - insert your own word or words here - what's he going to base his speech on? I'm a war president. No wait, I'm a peace president. The economy is good. No wait, it's not. Um, the war in Iraq is fully supported by Americans. No wait, it's not. I do really good photo ops. Ok, he's got that one. :::smirk:::

Besides, I just know that some unemployed bodybuilders and porn film aspirants are going to jump me and force me to consume massive amounts of anabolics, enhancing my skinny physique and damaging my mental capacity until I vote Republican.

11. He will not even physically BE at the convention.
He will give his speech via video on the huge screen like Big Brother.

This way he does not have to give the speech live, but can record it and polish it so that there are no huge errors.

"Security" will be cited as the reason for this departure from tradition.

The DEM Con went very well and smoothly even by media accounts. Kerry's speech exceeded expectations. We can hope that Murphy's Law is in full effect on Aug 30th 'cause they've now gotta be perfect just to match it. Of course CNN and the like will peddle furiously to put a positive spin on all gaffes, snafus, boners, and screw ups. Hopefully there will be too many to ignore. That's my fond wish.

31. You put your finger on the biggest difference between Kerry and Bush
The Poor Bush....they are writing his speech now, trying to find the right words and phrases he can handle without fucking up.

While Kerry had some input from speech-writers, he wrote most of the speech himself, while I guarantee that Bush will have zero significant input to his own speech. All his does is mouth the words and ideas of others (a fact made glaringly obvious by his performance during impromptu questioning, e.g. the recent Unity conference performance). He is the ultimate empty suit frontman, and why people can't see that (present company excepted)is beyond me.

Edited on Sun Aug-08-04 08:15 AM by PATRICK
That may have been the problem with the Unity speech and others. He's reaching deep and banging his hand on the bottom of a dry pool.

Performance is everything since his cheering section will try to substitute for all reasonable inadequacies. But he has been campaigning hard and if not rested and at ease it could be fun.

I expect it to be boring, really safe. But as Kerry exceeded his own fine
speechmaking, it may well be Bush will exceed our expectations of blind dumbness. Or, at the least, he will forget America is watching and play to the roaring crowds of believers in some funny repulsive way.

Or the teleprompter could malfunction?

is a distinct expectation. The press will try to give him extra points if he manages to escape a meltdown but what of the speech itself, the substance? what can he possibly say that we have not heard before?

37. The lower the expectations, the better he'll do.
It's the pattern he's followed his whole life. Sure he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he's always managed to cut it with a little help from his friends. They are going to work him over and pump him up until he goes out there and does just a fantastically mediocre job (a giant step up for him), and people are going to be re-assured that he isn't the complete idiot they suspect he is. Then they will go out and vote their pocketbook like they do every election season.

48. He has to go right, like way off the deep, right-wing end...
..to draw distinctions between him and Kerry. Since the delinquent has no military experience to show off and reinforce his "war president" chest-thumping/flag-waving, I expect he'll have to turn to shoring up the base --- a lot of BS about "protecting the sanctity of marriage" and "God founded this country -- and we're going to keep it under his command" --shit like that to appease the Taliban wing of the Republican party. Then they'll trot out Schwartzennegger to woo middle-of-the-roaders, but Schwartzenegger's swagger will only reinforce the cockiness that has already driven thousands away from the party. Schwartzenegger's immigrant-to-riches story does not compare favorably to Obama's all-American story, particularly since his father was a Nazi. And Schwartzenegger's the best they've got to show for themselves. Heehee. Can't wait to see it!!
