Anyone know what Tommy Franks said about Kerry?
Precinct walking this morning I ran into two freepers working in a driveway on a super big gas hog truck. They wanted to know who I was supporting and I said Kerry. They said it was too bad because they were voting for Bush after listening to a speech by Tommy Franks, a great general. They said he told the truth about what happened to Kerry in Vietnam and it wasn't what the Kerry people are claiming.

Since we have been instructed not to argue with anyone, I wished them a nice day and walked away. I have been trying to find out what Franks said. I know he's promoting a book. Does anyone know or have a link?

1. I believe the vets who are against Kerry
dont like him because he acknowledged there was atrocities in Vietnam and Franks I think said yes there was atrocities.

3. Tommy Franks on Sean Hannity
When pressed by conservative talk show host Sean Hannity, retired General and Former Commander in Chief of Central Command, Tommy Franks believed Kerry's summary of what other soldiers had told him about unfortunate actions by a few U.S. soldiers in Vietnam: "I'm not sure that -- that activities like that didn't take place. In fact, quite the contrary. I'm sure that they did."

6. Strange stuff
I was under the impression that it was well established through the US Armed Forces investigations that there were atrocities in Viet Nam. It was war and stuff happens. My Lai certainly comes to mind. Is the idea now to rewrite history by claiming there were NONE? Strange stuff from the right.

Reminds me of a conversation with my mother-in-law who couldn't support Kerry because he was "against the Viet Nam war". With some surprise I asked "Well isn't just about EVERYONE against that war...in retrospect. Certainly it must seem like a particularly bad idea by now. I thought that was settled" "Well, yes. NOW", she said. "But at the time it was very unpatriotic of him"
