Say you're a Nader supporter--you really think Kerry is almost as bad as Bush, but this year you realize the importance of the election and are going to hold your nose and vote for Kerry. If you were polled, you might use that as an outlet for your frustration with the system by saying you would vote for Nader, even if, in the actual election, you would vote for Kerry.

Bush wants no part of an attack on Iran because he knows that an overmatched Iran would throw waves of twelve year olds with keys to heaven at American troops as they did in their war with Iraq....



And an attack on North Korea would ensure that Seoul would be turned into dust....

OK, so, 31 percent of the people asked said that they were following the alert levels very closely, but only 26 percent of people asked said that they were being more careful during an alert. That means 5 percent of people asked are following the alerts closely, but don't do anything differently.

What kind of person cares enough to closely follow the alert level, but not enough to actually do anything? It's just weird.

Which means it was taken before much of the violence in Iraq and the awful economic news on Friday. The poll was taken during a period where the focus was on security alerts and Bush's fearmongering. The numbers for Bush have likely gone down, not up, especially on the economy.
