I don't really think it's a matter of Dems not voting for the nominee that is the problem.
There have been a lot of exit polls that show Hillary has been getting a lot of republican votes in the primaries but those voters have said they won't support her in the general election. Why would they do that? Because they don't think they can beat Obama.
The problem is that Hillary will bring out all of the Right Wing Clinton haters who can't find any other reason to vote. The same thing would happen if we ran a Democratic version of McCain against Newt Gingrich. The one man in the GOP who can really get people to come out and vote AGAINST him is Gingrich.
Hillary is the spark that the GOP is hoping for to ignite their "base". They have been trained since 1992 that the Clintons are bad and that they MUST support the GOP candidate to beat the Clintons.
That's why I think Obama makes more sense. He was actually getting a lot of independent and republican support in the early primaries until the Neocons started pushing Hillary.
I've been wanting to ask those Sen. Clinton supporters that are now fawning over Fox news and the like "do you honestly believe they WON'T turn on you if Sen. Clinton gets the nomination???"
Because they will. They've been building up Sen. Clinton as THE bogeywoman for years now, and used her "inevitable" run for president as a fear-mongering tactic. They know she riles their base - because they've programmed their base that way.
Which is why they're suddenly buddy-buddy with her. But if she gets the nomination, they'll turn on her like a pack of rabid hyenas.
I think it should be over sooner rather than later. A couple of days ago, I didn't care.
Now we are faced with "Clinton supporters" who smell an awful lot like RW plants (it wouldn't be the first time the Clintons got taken advantage of). As long as this battle goes on within, they are free to enter in as legit contenders. Much like the Iraq/terrorist situation. Stop the war and the insurgents have nowhere to hide.
6. Any Democratic candidate will be a target for the GOP in the Fall
that's the way they work- they attack the candidate with negative ads, swiftboating tactics, etc.
I think it will take a lot more work for the GOP to destroy Obama's chances and they will be fighting an uphill battle due to the number of new voters and independent voters Obama has attracted.
They already have the built-in hatred of anything Clinton working for them. They know that a certain percentage of GOP voters will vote simply to vote AGAINST Hillary. They don't really care who they are voting for. They've been trained by the GOP that Clinton is bad.
It will be easier for the GOP to paint Hillary in a negative light. They'll have a lot less voters to sway.
