Obama to Pull a Big Switcharoo
by TallJames
Thu May 15, 2008 at 12:15:20 AM PDT

Wednesday night Barack Obama gave us a glimpse of what to expect from him once he is in the White House and, it proves that we are in for some big, not-what-we-think-is-right surprises.

..............

Barack waits and then with perfect timing, grace, style he does it his way - the way he planned all along - the way that handles the situation cleanly and most effectively.

So what's this big switcharoo from the headline?

We are all going to have to come to grips with the fact the Obama Administration,
like the Obama campaign, will be SMARTER than we are.

And honestly, that's a switch I am looking forward to.

13. Slightly damning with faint praise
Whenever someone says "Obama is smarter than Shrub", it should have the unspoken addition "Yeah, but so's yeast".

Actually, I don't think the Bush admin have been stupid. Rather, I think they've been lethally clever and, with the exception of Dems capturing both houses, everything has gone much as they wanted it to.

37. Lethally Clever.....does that
compare to...Dumb like a fox?...because I think the current resident portrays himself as stupid, while being exceedingly clever...after all, he's done exactly as he's wanted for the last 8 years, while we have all stood around with NO power and watched our country go to hell in a handbasket...personally, I think anyone taking that office now, will have to be far more clever than * was, in order to wade through the bs...let's just hope Obama is smart enough to undo and get rid of the damage that's been perpetrated upon us, by the current resident...It would also be nice to have the ability to question what the next pres is doing, while sitting in OUR HOUSE..I am tired of the "it's my way or the highway" mentality...I never got to say that to any of my bosses...and WE ARE his boss..(even though most of those in office seem to forget)...wb

39. Pretty much
Bush is not stupid. He's uncurious and intellectually lazy but mainly, he's the smiling frontman for the collection of pure evil in the back room (i.e. Cheney). They've got almost exactly what they wanted out of the last eight years. Couple of things didn't work out (Social Security privatisation, for example) but on everything that matters, they've got exactly what they want.

If the (presumably Democratic) next Congress has the guts, it'll impeach and convict Bush during his lame duck period and the incoming president (presumably Obama) will turn them over to The Hague for trial on war crimes charges. If BushCo genuinely believes they've done nothing wrong, charge the bastards and let them have their day in court to defend themselves.

45. Yes he is stupid. Have you heard the man speak?
"he's the smiling frontman for the collection of pure evil"

Exactly. The goons behind him are the ones who are not stupid. The Iraq war wasn't a mistake... they planned this occupation & the accompanying profiteering for decades. They had the Patriot act waiting in the wings... just had to have the right motivation to get the people and the thoughtless congress behind it.

Edited on Thu May-15-08 12:06 PM by windbreeze
I wouldn't be too awful sure of what he won't accomplish before he's done, and sad to say, an awful lot of bad things seem to have gotten passed, with help from our own Democrats, over the last 8 years...I figure this election is not over until the fat lady sings, perhaps we would be wise to remember that...I want to see Obama in the WH, before I allow myself to believe it will happen....we may have more serious trials to go through at the hands of this bunch...before we are free of them...

I do believe IF Obama gets to be pres., that there is much more chance of them being investigated and prosecuted, than there were if others were elected, but, we do realize, don't we...that it's also quite dangerous to say, you are going to investigate them once you've been elected...as Obama has already done...these types do NOT take kindly to what could be perceived as threats to their safety and secrecy...especially when you consider who they see/hear making those threats...will they believe it's the truth...or that it's just smoke and mirrors to get elected???...wb

ps: I have to ask...isn't * done this year? His lame duck'dness is right now, isn't it? and the reason that this Congress has not impeached is, once again, because they do NOT have the majority of votes needed...the Senate is split even 49/49 w/2 independents(one of whom is Lieberman) and the House is split..232/203..so the Democrats don't have the majority that allows for impeachment...because it requires a 2/3 vote of BOTH houses of Congress, and I can't see them getting an extra 17 Rep in the Senate, or 58 Rep. in the house to vote for it..So investigations/prosecutions will have to wait until he's out of office...when the new Congress also comes in...Let's remember too, that all 435 members of Congress are up for re-election this year, and 1/3 of the Senate members are up for re-election...those races are the ones where we need to make our voices heard...

They even have a poll for their hero worship - Are these people serious??

"Are you looking forward to having a President that is smarter than us?"

John Edwards waited until his endorsement was safe; and then slapped the voters of WV in the face. This comes off as cheap and crafty as the King of "Switcharoo" Obama.

50. how did Edwards "slap the voters of WV in the face"?
Edited on Thu May-15-08 11:11 AM by ima_sinnic
he's supposed to tiptoe around because of who people voted for?
should he have said, gee, I better not endorse Obama, because it might hurt the feelings of the people in WV --?
were the people of WV forced to vote for a loser?
"waited until his endorsement was safe"--? what does that mean, exactly?

why are Hillary supporters so freaking bitter? a great many people did not get to vote for the candidates they wanted--more than once -- many, like me, wanted Kucinich, then Edwards, but had to come around to one or the other, Obama or Clinton, mainly because of media manipulation. It took me about 20 minutes to get over it each time--because some things just have to be accepted, "tilting at windmills" is a useless endeavor. Kucinich and Edwards (who came in 2nd in Iowa, if you remember, but was never even mentioned after that) were completely marginalized and ignored by the media. They hardly had a chance to make their case. Meanwhile, Hillary was hyped sickeningly by the media--she was the one the repukes wanted, and they wanted a contest between Obama and Hillary--and they assumed Hillary would win, and that would be great because the repukes have a vast arsenal of shit they wanted to throw at her--and now they won't be able to until maybe 2012 (when she will lose again, by the way). Obama ran a better campaign and won, do you think you can get over it?

42. NO.
We ended up with Bush because low information voters casted their votes for Bush.

This time, the young folks, the college educated, and minorities (all groups who have proven themselves not easily hoodwinked unlike Bush/Clinton voters) all who care about their damn future will be the coalition that will put Obama into the White House.

That's the fucking difference. And its a big one, I might add.

48. Not just "when" but WHERE and HOW.
Obama CLEARLY understands the hole that's been dug by the Democratic Party in Michigan. Hillary merely wants to exploit that hole for her own hypocritical self-interest. Obama cannily arranged a rally in GOP country - western Michigan - and addressed the more generic concerns of Michigan voters. He brought John Edwards - who ALSO had his name removed from the January ballot - to FINALLY face the voters of Michigan, taking the first step on a long journey to ameliorate the FUBAR of the Democratic Party insiders at the state (FIVE different states!) and national level.

Obama is running the best primary campaign I've ever seen in decades.

51. I will say that this is a dangerous line of thinking.
It leads to a lack of accountability of government if taken to its logical extreme. I look forward to the Obama administration come next January, but to simply accept whatever some institution does because they are "smarter" than you is a dangerous proposition. In a system such as ours, we have to be vigilant and question virtually everything our government does in order to keep it accountable, not just simply shrink in fear of their mighty wisdom.

56. No, I don't think so.
I'm sure he's smart and all that, but I'm going to keep my eye on him anyway.

62. How condescending
We are all going to have to come to grips with the fact the Obama Administration,
like the Obama campaign, will be SMARTER than we are.
