I've never seen the democractic party and the left in general act so ...
...quickly to counter and debunk a GOP smear as they have the "Swift Boat Kerry" slander.

If we'd moved half as fast during the 90s, most of the pointless Clinton scandals would have been defused.

Congratulations to the DNC, the left in general, and especially the researchers and "reporters" of Democratic Underground!

2. me thinks those days are over!
Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 05:48 PM by wyldwolf
We give the American people too much credit. We want to see the best in them and never believed they'd actually fall for the lies. The truth would be a beacon of light we guessed.

We guessed wrong.

We let Clinton get lynched.

Not Kerry! Not this time!

6. I think the afraid days are over
We have learned (I hope) that it doesn't matter if we speak out or not as far as pissing people off. We haven't gained any ground (in fact lost ground) by holding our tongue. We have learned that we can withstand their 24/7 radio talk bullying and their smears on all the TV punditry shows. They are going to smear us no matter what so we may as well fight back. "Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained."

5. You're right.
I'll admit that after 12 years of Reagan/Bush I let my guard down in the 90s and kinda fell asleep at the switch (partly because of having babies, but still). Then the election was stolen and the media was complicit. Inauguration Day 2001 opened my eyes. Damn, am I awake now. I call media outlets all the time to complain.

12. Same here!
Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 09:39 PM by SW FL Dem
I voted Dem, but my focus was on my family and my job. That all changed Dec 12, 2001. My kid is now a teenager and I have the time and energy to get involved. In 2000, I was afraid to put a Gore bumper sticker on my car because I live in a heavily Repub area. My car now has a Kerry/Edwards sticker on and I have a bunch of extras to hand out to people who like it. I have a Kerry/Edwards button on my purse (and extras inside to give to anyone who wants one. I ordered 20 of each and in less than a week, I am running out. Like you, I email the media and my Senators/Reps all the time.

I've volunteered to be a block captain for the local Dem party and once school starts, I plan to volunteer several hours a week at the local Dem HQ.

8. It reminds me of a Freddy Kruger movie, of all things
Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 10:17 PM by rocknation
It was just one scene that I happened to catch while channel surfing. But it was THE scene: the one where the victim-to-be says something like "It's all over, Freddy. I understand it now: THIS IS ALL A DREAM. You can't do anything to me anymore because I know now that YOU AREN'T REAL."

I didn't finish watching, but I presume that the victim-to-be went on to vanquish Freddy and live happily ever after--after all, Freddy had been rendered defenseless to the point of being nonexistent. By losing his facade, he lost his power. And I've seen that same loss of power behind the eyes of the GOP talking heads since the Not-Too-Swift boaters set sail. Oh, they're still in there pitching. But that spark in their eyes is gone because they know they've lost their edge: they can't convince us that we're a weak helpless voiceless minority anymore. They know it's over. They know they can't scare us anymore. They know that WE know that they aren't real.

9. I keep telling people
Kerry runs a different kind of campaign. Just look at how he tore Weld apart in that senate race. Kerry entered that race behind. He's a very good campaigner and he has a good team. Ann Lewis on crossfire was brilliant.
