I know it's expected, but last I heard he had not formally accepted.

It was supposed to come on Sunday.

6. He only needs to be an inhabitant on the day of the election
according to Article I., Section 3., Clasue 3. of the constitution.

Residency requirements for the primary are much more stringent, hence why Hillary moved to New York a year in advance of the primary.

Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 11:51 AM by No2W2004
that it's all Keyes can think of.

Hey, Alan! Welcome to Illinois. Hope you enjoy your very short stay here and hope you have a safe trip back to NY in November.

9. The largest percentage of the vote Keyes EVER got
was 38.2% against Sarbanes for the MAryland Senate seat in 1988.

17. I heard Alan Keyes last night ...
... he was pointing to Hillary Clinton as precedent for his run.

Keyes KNOWS he is going to lose. He's just using this as an opportunity to get video and Microphone time.

10. Ha--I *strongly* encourage the Illinois Republican Party
to throw all the cash they can at him. They aren't going to get it back. :-)

18. It WASN'T up to the Illinois Republicans ...

The choice wasn't made by the Illinois Republicans. The choice was made by Dennis Hastert on behalf of the national GOP. THEY will be financing Alan Keyes campaign through surrogates.

I daresay if the locals made the decisison, they would have liked to picked someone who RAN HONORABLY for the primary. I mean, thats the way it works with beauty pageants. Should the queen be unable to fullfill her duties, the runner up gets the crown.

11. it doesn't matter about the carpetbagging
he's completely off the scale in so many ways

check some quotes

blames Nazi Germany on homosexuality, cause many of Hitler's top men were of that persuasion

abortion with terrorism, explicitly

this will be amusing, if it doesn't get vicious

13. When he berates Hillary Clinton for doing EXACTLY the same thing,
I say it does matter.

Obama will never sink to Keyes level, and will treat Keyes as the stupid crackpot he is.

Keyes is a joke. He has NO chance.

That's why the Illinois GOP didn't bother going after any legit canidates.(Mike Ditka anyone?)

It's over for this year and they know it.

12. WATCH FOR THIS DATE!!!!
Sunday, September 5 is a VERY important date in this campaign. If Keyes has not moved to Illinois by this date, he cannot make the deadline to register to vote of October 5th which means he would not be able to vote for himself.

How can Alan Keyes expect people to take his campaign seriously if he does not take it seriously enough to do what it takes to vote for himself?

14. YES!!!!
Bring 'em on! Let's debate tomorrow!

This is great news to Illinois Democrats as the ultimate implosion of the Illinois GOOP has just begun. It's the wacko conservatives, vs. the not-so-wacko conservatives vs. the party hacks vs. Rove. I love it!

There's getting to be way too much to run on here. Just kidding!

As a hate radio yakker in Chicago said yesterday: "the second Keyes opens his mouth and mis-pronounces Cairo or Paulina Street, he'll be slammed from all sides"...and "this guy probably never set foot outside of Maryland, yet been to downstate Illinois".

The disgust in Pleasant Valley Sunday has gone from unbareable to outright contempt.

Look for the Liberatarian to finish second in this race.

15. Actually, Keyes may gove Jerry Kohn a real run for second place
Andrea Barthwell would've guaranteed Jerry a second place finish.

19. The Pugs Here Are Just Shy Of Getting Out Pitchforks.
Not only was their boy, Steve Rauschenberger manhandled in the primary and dismissed in the latest games, there are still some Oberweis people around who feel they should get the nomination since he finished second (Roe Conn...the doofus...did a real funny bit of Oberweis in the hellicopter reporting on the Keyes coming across the border)...I also live in Pete Fitzgerald's backyard (if mansions and estates have such a thing)...and those folks (and there are still many) have started to come out, and they've got big bitches with not only the state party but Hastert and the national leadership.

Barthwell would have been an amusing candidate, considering just her past voting record. We could have had a lot of fun there.

I'm hoping the national party tries to waltz in here and is forced to spend money and waste resources just to keep their own party from totally disolving.

This is just too good to be true.

BTW...Check out this string...the natives are more restless than what I thought. These are people in Hastert's backyard wondering why their man won't take their phone calls...

20. Let's not take this too lightly
Obama will probably win, but he can't act as if it's in the bag. If I were the Republicans, I would pour money into this race in an attempt to strangle Obama's national career in the cradle. It probably wouldn't work, but I would try if I were them.

As for Keyes, if they both campaign like themselves (openly standing for what they've always stood for {other than Keyes opposing carpetbaggers, of course <g>}), Obama will win, but Obama has to campaign like he has no idea he's the favorite. He has to win, not merely wait/hope for Keyes to lose. Especially if he has any national aspirations.
