Obama Supporters: Share Your Elitist Story! (Sarcasm)
I'm a college student who tries his best, but sometimes falls behind.

I have trouble paying my bills, and I'm horrible at budgeting.

I manage a local restaurant and work approximately 45-60 hours a week.

I rent a duplex, and have to have a roommate to help pay my rent.

That's my story behind my elitist support for Senator Obama.

Whats yours?

2. Single mom... live in an apartment,
but still scrimping to buy a dinette. May indulge in a washing machine soon! That'll save me around $30 in laundromat money every month. I'll feel ever so luxurious, doing my laundry at my own place.

La dee da!

5. I feel your pain, I don't have a washing machine.
Edited on Mon May-12-08 03:24 PM by Kerry2008
My family live not so far away, so I usually wash them there.

It's sad that I'm considering rent-to-own just to get a washing machine.

Bless your heart. You're just as elite as me.

4. I still haven't finished college and I don't drink coffee.
A trip to Starbuck's is a huge treat in my life - it's way out of my everyday budget. I am so far behind in my bills I've almost circled back to being a millionaire (yeah, right). I rent an apt. that doesn't even have much furniture in it because furniture costs money. I clip coupons religiously and carry my little coupon holder with me everywhere. I cringe everytime I have to get gas and worry about my mom because she doesn't have health insurance (can't afford it). I'm currently looking for at least one part-time job so I can get caught up on bills. Oh, and I'm a middle-aged white woman, so I really "should" be a Clinton supporter - but it's because of all these reasons that I've listed (and many more) that I firmly and proudly support Obama.

6. Overpriced studio apartment in NYC -- not Manhattan.
Full-time job, occasional overtime.

Don't have cable or anything resembling a decent TV.

Regular bills.

No car.

8. unemployed
I just turned 24 and I haven't been employed in about 2 months

I was a janitor for 4 years right out of high school, then a relay operator for about 2 years before losing my job

I attended a local technical college for one year before dropping out and I'm 6000 dollars in debt

9. I was cut from my job
so somebody else whose jobs were eliminated and have more seniority than me can take my job. To add insult to injury, I just got my review today; half meets expectations and half EXCEEDS expectations.

I work for a school district. Enjoy your tax cuts, Floridians.

11. I am the monied elite, but cultural scum.

Grew up on a farm. Started life using an outhouse. Went to a three room elementary school several miles from the nearest town. Worked my hands bloody and raw on occasion. But didn't think anything of it. I thought everyone worked that way.

On the flip side, my parents ultimately did well enough in life to pay my way through college. I just inherited 240 acres of the farm, own a home and an apartment building in Chicago and have a six figure income and a fairly impressive resume.

But then again, my house is falling apart, my kitchen literally fell down a couple years ago and I couldn't afford to hire someone to fix it (as I had invested too heavily in that apartment building which I only did to help my ex-wife who developed health problems). So I had to rebuild it from the ground up myself. Got it sealed less than a week before the snows started.

I once had a woman downtown Chicago hand me a dollar while I was waiting for my ride assuming I was homeless (why my bosses put up with me... oh, that's right, I'm fucking good). Did I protest and tell her I probably made more money than she did? Naw. That was half a beer! I was hoping someone seeing her do that would give me the other half.

I'm a White guy who married a Black woman subsequently spending a lot of time in those Chicago neighborhoods where all the ignorant folk will tell you White people can not venture safely. Across the street from her grandmother was not one, but two gang hangouts. Never saw fewer than 20 kids there, usually there were 40 to 60 hanging out in the yard, on the roof, etc.

Got pulled over by the cops a couple of times on the assumption a White guy in that neighborhood could only be up to no good. Yes, the cops do racially profile Whites as well. There are just fewer opportunities for them to do so, yet probably more cause.

My sister and her husband are both college educated. They put three kids through college. One of them is well on his way to his PhD at Carnegie-Mellon.

My brother is sitting around his house wearing an anklet because of drug possession and has the union fighting to get him his job as a mailman back. Second time he's been through this.

15. At the Obama table this weekend, I was offering the two choices of bumperstickers...
The one was in "Hard Working Class White":

and the other (in my best Thurston Howell accent) Royal Blue...

It always got a chuckle...they went for the blue...

16. Yeah, 0-snobs, beaten any poor people with baseball bats lately?
Do you go back to your rich friends and brag at the Starbucks about beating the filthy worthless wino and how they begged you to stop, but you were having too much fun?

Just curious.

17. The minute you say "college" you're ELITE!!!!................
Edited on Mon May-12-08 04:44 PM by MikeDJohn
Funny, every hard working white, black, yellow, red, and brown parent in America wants their sons and daughters to go to college, but heaven help us if these college kids ACTUALLY VOTE!!!!

No, you're doing just fine to work so hard and make so little and still have time to care for American politics enough to want to vote for Obama. Congratulations to you.

I am a retired public servant, on a fixed income, have voted for the Dem Presidential candidate in every election since Humphrey.I have ALSO voted for Republican Mayors, Governors, Congresspeople, who were progressive, active public servants who made some differences.

I am a member of a minority group, (I'm gay) and I like Obama's stands on all issues including gay equality rights under all laws.
Hillary, not so much, when she says she wants to leave those questions up to the individual states.

I also have health issues that make me a member of another minority. My concerns about health care are more important than gay rights, but both candidates look equal to me on health issues, no immediate solution from either of them, and no universal federally funded health care even close to being on the horizon. I have spent time in Canada and the UK, and I know universal health care works for 99.9% of health problems there, whereas here in the USA, we have 10-15% of our people unable to afford a visit to a doctor or dentist

I was and am willing to vote for Clinton, if she earns the nomination, but I see that as impossible for her now.
