Cheney Blames Democrats for Gas Prices (AP)
By JAMES JEFFERSON, Associated Press Writer

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Vice President Dick Cheney said Tuesday that rising consumption and decreasing domestic production have led to high gasoline prices but also blamed his Democratic opponents and their opposition to the Bush administration's energy policies.

The Bush-Cheney campaign accuses Senate Democrats of blocking a Bush energy plan that would increase petroleum drilling and energy conservation and provide new tax breaks and other incentives to spur exploration and production.

"John Kerry and John Edwards voted no," Cheney said. "It's another area where I think there is a significant difference." ...

... Cheney spoke from a podium that was in sight of a handful of protesters who marched outside the Convention Center, some carrying signs that included a reference to Bush, Cheney and Attorney General John Ashcroft as "the axis of evil."

3. that's cute. we've got all-time-high reserves and oil company profits
exploding, and the administration isn't doing ANYTHING to try to control these money-grubbing cheating scumbags, and as the profits for their biggest supporters explode the administration's attack dog blames high prices on the real patriots, the Democratic Party of the United States of America.

we will teach this lying bastard respect. you want to watch him sit and spin and swear up a storm? watch him on NOVEMBER 2ND, 2004, when he's going to learn what it means to be REJECTED.

4. It's their government
The presidency, the executive branch, the Congress, the Supreme Court, majority of governorships and state legislatures and the high gas prices are the Democrats fault.

That's restoring accountability for you there.

Herbert Hoover didn't blame the Democrats for the Depression. Jimmy Carter did not blame stagflation on the Republicans.

6. Kind of like California was all Davis' fault...
I'm convinced, so send in the Gropenator!!!

In all honesty, how can he group increased petroleum drilling along with supring exploration and production in the same sentence and/or category as energy conservation?!

7. The AP didn't solicit a SINGLE response from Democrats for this story.
The AP just allowed Cheney to go off on his extremist rant, without rebuttal.

8. No reason to increase petroleum drilling
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 03:11 PM by Triana
...We need to cut consumption and find alternative fuels. I'm glad Dems voted against drilling in all our nature preserves. Good for them.

And as another DU'er here pointed out, doesn't matter *how* Dems voted 'cause the Repigs - and specifically Tricky Dick II, The (W)easel and their big oil corprat buddies that make up most of their cabinet - are in charge - of the White House, the Senate, and the House of Reps.

Idiots. If they crapped in their oily diapers they've no one to blame but themselves. If Democrats voted against smearing the entire planet with their greasyfeces, good for them.

10. GAWD!!! Not ANWR again!
Cheney advocated increasing domestic oil production in wildlife areas in Alaska and other regions that are off-limits to development.

Give it a rest, Mr. "Gof*ckyourself" Vice-President!

If an original idea ever entered these people's heads, it would die of loneliness!

14. The GOP have the Congress, the WH and the Supreme Court.
How the hell can that Cheney whine about the "Democrats blocking the Bush energy plan"??? What a crybaby. He should have been booed off stage by all those red bloodied Republicans for being a wimp.

18. This is absolutely preposterous.
The Dems ought to really smack him (figuratively, of course) for this outlandish comment. The Republican goons control all of Washington and they want to blame their stupifying incompetance on John Kerry -- not gonna work, folks.

Even the oil companies say that it's Bush's constant fear tactics which keep the price up. His policies don't inspire confidance.
