I still love Bill ! Who's with me???
Edited on Mon May-12-08 09:47 AM by Laura PackYourBags
Bill Richardson:

* During the 2002 campaign for Governor, Bill Richardson broke a world record. He shook 13,392 hands in an 8-hour period – shattering the record that former president Theodore Roosevelt set on inauguration day in 1907.

*While a congressman, Richardson served as a special envoy on many sensitive international missions. He successfully won the release of hostages, American servicemen, and prisoners in North Korea, Iraq, and Cuba. He also secured the release of an Albuquerque resident who was kept hostage in Sudan.

*Bill Richardson served for fifteen years in northern New Mexico representing the 3rd Congressional District, one of the most ethnically diverse in the country. He won every election with more than 60% of the vote, revealing a real mandate for his vision for New Mexico and his ability to effectively represent and serve his constituents. He held 2,700 town hall meetings, an average of about 180 per year.

*New Mexico continues to be a national leader in job growth and economic momentum – with more than 80,000 more New Mexicans working since Governor Richardson took office, and an unemployment rate that is the lowest in state history

*He was re-elected in 2006 with the support of 69 percent of voters, representing the largest margin of victory for any Governor in state history. He was supported by Democrats, Republicans and Independents, winning in both urban and rural counties New Mexicans overwhelmingly endorsed Governor Richardson's aggressive efforts to improve education, cut taxes, build a high-wage economy, expand health care access, invest in renewable energy and make New Mexico safer.

DOESN'T THIS TEAM LOOK GREAT ?????

adds a degree of gravitas - And my wingnut in-laws, at one time, told me he
was the only dem they would ever consider voting for.

Edited on Mon May-12-08 09:50 AM by Ian_rd
Which means you hate Jesus. Which probably means you're a Muslim. Which means you want to destroy America. I demand Obama renounce, repudiate, excoriate, condemn, and disavow you!

Yea, I really like Bill too. And talk about a way to turn out the Hispanic vote if he's the VP runner. Then again, a black/hispanic ticket? You can imagine the fully-clothed urination that would occur across the nation at that prospect.

Would be my VP short-list. Webb by a hair. Richardson would be a forward-looking, generational choice, though. Si se puede!

19. I love Biden, but...
...he'll be like 72 in 2016. That may be a bit too old to run for president (I know McCain is older but he's also going to lose) and I'd like to have a strong incumbent VP to run after Obama's 2 terms.

29. that's a good point, I hadn't thought of - he looks so young. I don't
think we need someone too old - makes it looked like O had to have the
older, wiser one to complete him. Richardson's just the right age, to me.

17. That ticket could do well.
We know we're probably not going to win a majority of white votes, since the Republican party is mostly whites, and there are too many old whites who will vote for McCain. But we could win blacks by 95-5 and Hispanics by 80-20.

I think Obama-Richardson puts in play all the big states, all the western states, all the southern and southwestern border states, and many of the old South southern states.

26. HAHA !!! you're right. no HRC fan here. it's the only time me
and my wingnut father-in-law agree on politics.

The only thing I worry about is people here say he has "womanizing"
in his background - saw on his bio he'd been married 35 years to
his childhood sweetheart. Course, I guess no one could bring
that up anyway since McCain's no saint either.

I have always admired Bill Richardson and I hope he is on the short list for VP. The only drawback with him is that I think he is a little weak on debating, although I think he could hold his own against Mitt Romney. :)

28. Yes, but he sure seemed to throw in some zingers once in a while
to put everyone in their place. It sounds like his NM record would definitely outshine
Romney's in MA. At least we don't have to worry about debating Cheney again - the evil
one is very good at deflecting shit. No one out there is as evil, I hope.

35. There's a reason he did so poorly in the presidential race ...
He's got a lousy persona on TV ... he comes off as a whiner and not exceptionally bright. They can have him in New Mexico. And keep him there.

He's a sell-out, pure and simple. Saw which way the wind was blowing and jumped on to try to get a spot in the admin.

Yeah, I'd go for that.

Pull in the Latino vote, and add foreign policy experience and maturity with going overboard with someone OLD or military.

Yeah, good idea.
