'Everything is at stake,' Kerry tells riverfront crowd
Race's intensity visible in exchanges with Bush supporters
By CRAIG GILBERT and ALAN J. BORSUK
cgilbert@journalsentinel.com
Posted: Aug. 2, 2004
After scooting across Lake Michigan by high-speed ferry, Democrat John Kerry staged a large, raucous rally along the Milwaukee River Monday night, deriding President Bush's leadership in the war on terrorism and portraying the election as an all-or-nothing pivot point in the nation's future.

"Everything is at stake!" Kerry told thousands of supporters who packed into Pere Marquette Park and lined the opposite side of the river. "Jobs! Health care! Education! Civil liberties! Civil rights! The Constitution! Social Security! Medicare! Our children! The environment! Our future! All of it is on the line."<snip>

While she was introducing her husband, Teresa Heinz Kerry referred to the group's audible call for "Four more years."

Said Heinz Kerry, "They want four more years of hell."

The Kerry crowd followed with chants of "Three more months."

Kerry also responded to the pro-Bush chanters, saying they wanted to "drown people out" with their megaphones.

"We don't want to be drowned out," Kerry said. "I want to thank George Bush for sending the goons here tonight to excite us to do a little more work! Thank you!"<snip>

2. How's Bush fiscal conservative after proposing $6 trillion of unpaid idea
Both Edwards and Kerry, who will be in Wisconsin and Iowa, will portray themselves as fiscal conservatives and highlight a Kerry campaign study from April that claimed President Bush proposed $6 trillion worth of "new, unpaid initiatives" in his first three years in office, "expos the Bush administration for abandoning any semblance of fiscal discipline and turning the nation's record surpluses into record deficits."

4. Going to a Kerry rally today
And I sort of hope those goons show up. I am a peaceful person by nature, but its been a long time since I had the opportunity to "accidentally" shove a repub to the ground. Nah, it isn't worth jail time. They are entitled to an opinion, wrong as it is. Senator Kerry did the right thing and showed he is smarter than them anyway.

6. Freeper "goons" at the rally I was at were mostly women LOL
There were probably about 30 or 40 of them and they were a sorry sight...most of them were obese women in sweat, or stretch pants.

In other words you might not want to engage with one of these people because if they were to sit on you they'd kill ya!

19. I am glad that everyone is stoked about shouting down the
bush supporters, but I rather feel it's a cheap shot to point out a person's size as a "bash bush" technique. I'm a plus size democrat..thank you very much. So is Liz Edwards...ahem..

Would ya mind too much kinda watching that stuff please, pretty please? Makes me feel bad...embarrassing too. O8)

25. I got into it with a
couple of over-fed goons at the Kerry/Edwards rally in Bowling Green, OH on Sunday. I just couldn't help myself. These kids didn't even look old enough to vote. I said enjoy the draft and they said, "Good one!" I said, "You'll see!" I thought I was invincible when I was a teenager too. Next time I am going with enlistment forms to hand out to these people. I will, of course, tell them to sign up to defend their hero.

8. Right to Free Speech does NOT include right to deny someone elses speech.
Goons is the appropriate term.

If that were done at a Bush speech I'd think the person would be arrested, and these idiots interrupting Kerry's speech would approve of the double standard.

I'm loosing patience. Time for more coffee!

12. GOONS is an appropriate term.
It reminds me of the hired thugs who attempted to disrupt the recount in Florida in 2000.

But I must admit, this is one of the funniest things I've read in recent days!:

"There were several incidents of scuffling between Kerry and Bush supporters during the rally, including one in which it appeared a Kerry supporter attempted to throw a large Bush-Cheney sign into the Milwaukee River."

!!!!!!!

You can't show up at a Bush Rally with a "Kerry T-shirt" but they show up with bullhorns and airhorns. Time to start stomping.

15. I think we need to carry enlistment papers to hand to these goons
Tom Lange, 18, of Waukesha said he was setting off an air horn during Kerry's remarks because "we want them to hear us and not hear what he has to say."

Lange said it's "probably not nice, but it's my beliefs."

Michael Gaspar, 18, of Waukesha used a bullhorn frequently before and during the rally to welcome Kerry supporters "to Bush-Cheney country" and to spur on the Bush supporters.

Asked why he was leading the Bush volunteers in loud chants while Kerry was speaking, he said, "I'm doing this to show my support for President George W. Bush."

"I have the right to speak also," he said. "I'm just attempting to get my voice heard."

These two Bush Brownshirts need to get their butts in the Army or Marines so they can serve their glorious leader.

30. LOL they were at the Kerry rally in Tampa
Misunderestimator took pics of them...the freepers were lined up and the Teamsters blocked them from being seen by the crowds...it was sweet...then a guy with a truck and trailer with a Kerry/Edwards sign pulled in front of them and completely blocked them from view.

18. I screamed at the goons at the Harrisburg, PA, rally.
After the rally was over, I saw a lot of cops talking to a small group of Bushbots.

I was so whipped into a frenzy by the 25,000 people at the rally, and by Kerry/Edwards stirring speeches, that as I walked by, I yelled to the goons, "YOU'RE DELUDED!" I just couldn't hold it in. How those youngsters with the Bush/Cheney signs could still support those lying sacks of poo-poo, especially after hearing Kerry and Edwards speak (off the cuff, roaming, with mikes, no podium, no notes, no TelePromTer) ... well, I just wouldn't accept it. So I tried to scream some sense into them.

22. Because we don't do that
Our side's actually read -- and moreover respects -- the Constitution.

Which strikes me about thaist article is ONCE AGAIN, THEY DO NOT MENTION HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE AT THE RALLY.

I cannot STAND these people!!!

23. write to the reporter
Click on the link on his name and email him -- ask why he didn't mention the number of Kerry supporters, but detailed the number of Bush supporters.
Ask why he doesn't mention that you can't even get into Bush's rallys unless you're a registered Republican, and can even get arrested for wearing a Kerry t-shirt at a Bush "event."
I just did -- I'll post a response, if he offers one.
But we need to be on these people -- we can't rely on them merely to be fair and professional. That's asking WAY too much, apparently.

28. Goons at Clinton '92 rallies
Anyone here see Clinton on the campaign trail in '92. They bussed in the goon disruptors then too, and Clinton often had to yell to be heard over their chaints. He lost his voice often on the trail that year.

But he won. So it's a good sign, like the death rattles of Orcs.

29. Notice the article called them "pro Bush" not "Kerry bashers"
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=593511

If you show up at a Bush rally and chant for Kerry, you are a "Bush basher" if you show up at a Kerry rally and chant for Bush, you are a "Bush basher" - that is a media double standard that cannot be denied.
