because even the most ridiculous posts around here are frequently intended without irony! :eyes:

6. What I'm wondering is
Edited on Sat May-10-08 04:13 PM by 4themind
what kind of governance will need to be conducted to keep them in the fold? Even more DLC triangulation on issues important to many progressives?

11. Those are some of the issues that caused their split from the democrats.
I'm describing the general "Reagan Democrat" shift.

14. "reagan Democrats" are republicans
The PARENTS of reagan democrats were FDR democrats, and their children may have been "raised" in a democratic family, but when Reagan ushered in the ME/MINE generation of politics, those "children of democrats" threw off the WE/US democratic ties... They always WERE republicans, just not yet by name..

The midwest/dustbowl/rustbelt states were democrats for decades because of FDR...but by the time reagan came along, they were old and many were no longer even alive..their progeny turned those blue states red...

18. The irony lies in the fact that Bill Clinton played up the "ME" part of the "ME Generation" in .....
order to win both his terms.

20. BC "could" have been a republican just as easily as a democrat
He's a "figurer" and whichever way is best for him to get what he wants.,..that's HIS way..

he came along after the republicans had taken a hard-right, so natually democrats were a better fit, but as soon as he needed to turn right to get anything done, he went along with the program..

his fiscal policies are really in line with what the republican party USED to be...it was only after the looney religionists took over that everything changed for republicans..

BC is a democrat in the same way that Lincoln Chaffee is a republican
