9. This week the lovely and talented Bob Novak
Said that Oregon 'with its large hippy population leans heavily toward Obama.' Which is just such a broad generalization. But I spent the morning buying tie-dye shirts and organic pepper plants in Eugene so maybe he's right. I did not however wear Birkenstocks. I wore Crocs, thank you very much, and also bought a lovely marrionberry pie to eat while voting!

30. I did when I lived in Oregon. In Springfield of all places.
Edited on Sat May-10-08 04:12 PM by Hansel
One of my friend's brother and his wife. They lived in a cottage out in the country and they wore birkenstocks and she wore old tie-dyed peasant dresses. They had built garden paths out into the woods that they considered their peace haven. It was like walking through a mythical fairyland. I have a wooded lot in my backyard that I'm thinking of making a replica of it.

That was the 1st and last time I ever saw a hippy, although I heard from one of my friends who grew up in Eugene that there are still a few people living there that called themselves hippies.

I lived in Portland during all of the 90s and I never saw a hippy there. But I knew a lot of progressives.

85. Oh, we've got a Hippy Preserve going on here.
It's nice, because hippies are free to roam among the general population. We don't believe in confining our hippies. Some of them show up where expected (e.g. playing hackysack down by the waterfront, selling hemp products in outdoor markets), but some of them decide to live amongst people with minivans and PTA meetings to attend.

My niece is at Lewis and Clark College here in Portland, and she was explaining that the Hardcore Hippies don't allow just anyone to join their ranks. For example, you pretty much have to give up shoes and go barefoot year round. That's not easy when it's 50 degrees and rainy for weeks on end.

15. We all know that the sure-fire way to win over voters is to insult them....
I know it is humorous, but it sure underlies a big problem with the Clinton campaign: insulting voters who they think they don't need or who won't vote for them.

I'm sure there are a large number of Hillary supporters to Oregon, and for Clinton supporters to insult their OWN supporters is just bizarre.

holy spinhola, batman! :wow:

Barack Obama’s “New Politics” are really quite extraordinary. Obama’s “new politics” can be summarized as ‘get votes for free which you did not earn’.

The latest Chicago thuggery is a plan for Obama to get delegates in Michigan - a state in which Obama removed his name from the ballot!

Imagine that. A candidate does not run for election but gets votes. This surely is new - and dangerous, and undemocratic, and unwanted.
No doubt Obama violated the “no campaign” pledge in Michigan when he aired advertisments via surrogates asking voters to vote “uncommitted”. Obama also violated the “no campaign” pledge in Florida when he aired advertisments in Florida. But to get delegates from an election in which you did not run is well… thuggery.
{and unfortunately, it goes on ...}

Oh, and here's another winner ...

GOOD ONE!

LOL @

“I did not have spiritual relations with that man, Mr. Wright.” - Barack Obama

THANKS I REALLY ENJOYED THIS ONE…

45. I'll show you something really funny ......
They keep claiming that Hillary can win the swing states.

From their website:

There are good reasons not to take Puerto Rico lightly, even though the press has continued to do exactly that. I would note: (a) Puerto Ricans vote in large numbers (2 million in the last gubernatorial election); (b) Puerto Ricans have never had this important a role in United States presidential politics; (c) Puerto Rico’s politics is focused at least partially on how (if at all) to adjust its relationship with the United States; (d) Puerto Rico’s is an open primary, and the residents of the Commonwealth, who are United States citizens, do not see themselves as Republicans or Democrats.

Someone needs to make the author of this blog aware that PR doesn't vote in the GE.

Hating Oregon is like hating California, or New York, or any traditionally liberal state. These are the states that reliably vote Democratic, year in, year out. If you don't even have a minimum level of respect for these people, why are you in the Democratic Party?

69. Birkenstocks? In this rain?
That'd cut waaaaay down on the lifespan of the shoes.

This PDX'er wears Teva's when he wears sandals (most of the time I wear boots).

75. Clearly the fools know nothing about Oregon.
Edited on Sat May-10-08 09:48 PM by msallied
While there are a good many tree-huggers in Portland and Eugene, the eastern half of the state is all cowboy/redneck. The same can be said for Washington. Not a damn thing wrong with that. Besides, since when does any good Democrat demean hippies? WTF??

79. Yes, we are kind of split down the middle. You just have to drive past Mt. Hood to realize that.

Eastern Oregon will go Republican, but it will be balanced out by the more dense population in Western Oregon.

Maybe there are some hippies in The Dalles or Hood River, but I haven't met them.

At least, that's what I think will happen.

Cordially,

Radio Lady in Oregon

82. I agree completely.
Washington is very much the same way. Cross the Cascades and you're in a completely different state, both climate-wise and politically. Those people have been trying to break off from the rest of the state for decades and form their own state. It'll never happen, but for all intents and purposes, we are like two states in one.

80. Are you asking about --
www.hillaryis44.com

No, it's not.

It's people who want to believe that Hillary will be our 44th President.

81. Be prepared to be astounded if you decide to visit.
Logic, reason, even "facts" are nowhere in evidence.

83. I have been to that site earlier on, thank you very much.
No use talking to me anymore.

We voted on Monday (mail in ballots) and are awaiting the results on May 20th.

See my journal for the "extra" suggestion I made there.

Thanks a bunch!
