Just sayin'

Dust the dirt off your shoulders. That's what you've gotta do.

how about posting something good. something not negative toward Clinton.

something to lift up those around you.

2. It's going to take all of us to win in November.
She says she will work for it; he says she would be on anybody's short list. If they can come so close together, surely we can as well.

4. just saying: its going to get worse before it gets better
unless clinton drops out of this race, it's a full blown primary battle to the death. realize that. we here at du feed off of the press releases and the statements by the other candidate. and until it becomes a 1 horse race, its just going to get worse.

10. no doubt
but I think NC put a certain campaign into the coffin and IN closed it shut. the whole was dug a while back.

not saying it's over. but someone will need some super-beings to resurrect the dead, seems to me, and that's not the direction things are moving at this time.

what has surprised me is that Tim Noah's Slate article about the "fairy tale" pundits stated, two weeks ago, that if Clinton wanted to fight this to the death, she would be destroying her own political career. Just sayin'.

17. How are things going in N.O.?
Edited on Sat May-10-08 11:45 AM by RainDog
I've been collecting pictures of Hurricane Katrina images and pictures of Bush/McCain - you probably know Bush was in Arizona celebrating McCain's birthday when Katrina hit ground. birthday cake. big hug.

Bush spoke 157 words about Hurricane Katrina at a speech he gave that day.

Got Memphis Minnie's When the Levees Break... just to put something together to learn how to do this and that.

19. things are okay
thanks for asking.

i don't even have to reach back for the memory of mcbush's birthday lovin, nor the speechy speech bush gave- it's right there every time i go to my mamma's house in lakeview, or when i pass my husband's former place of employment, which closed about a year or two ago. never fully recovered, lost their customer base (dealership downtown, from which Cadillacs were commandeered), or when we got o our favorite restaurants...

i got out my holga after the storm and took pictures all over, but i've never been able to bring myself to develop the film. even seeing the progress is difficult. there are still a lot of wounds- i personally did not lose my home, but seeing my beloved city in ruins, seeing my community so devastated, knowing it will never be the same, neighbors that are lost, gone forver, will never be reunited...i still have avery difficult time even thinking about it.

20. I cannot imagine how hard it must be
- from outside of N.O. it was devastating enough.

The attempts to make it "New-O-Disney" make it all that much worse.

What has been done to repair structural damage to the levees? I know that was an issue - and one that has to be addressed.

27. levees
Edited on Sat May-10-08 04:06 PM by beezlebum
i'm a bit hazy on that today, at least in terms of progress. we all say that we weren't really hit by a hurricane- we were hit by failure.

those who were supposed to maintain those levees were aware years ago that they were faulty, that they would not stand up to a hurricane- even a relatively weak one. people knew that little was being done about it, and that it was only a matter of time. the only thing we didn't know was just what that meant.

lately, talk has been about the mississippi river levees rather than the ones along the canals that broke during K. the river had been so high recently that they opened the spillway (read up on that- st john was deliberately flooded back in the 20s to prevent more prominent areas from flooding. people were evacuated from their homes, which were subsequently deluged). not much has been said on the progress of the canals levee progress recently, just a month before hurricane season (i'm sure there's something floating around in my head, but once again, i'm recovering from surgery  .

and OH you hit THE nerve!! they are trying to make new o-disney- most certainly insult to injury!!!! i will never leave new orleans, and no amount of disneyfication can take it away from me- it is heartbreaking to know that it won't be the same. but one thing about new orleanians- we will make the best with what we have left- that's how they came up with gumbo chere!!

happy to give your thread another kick!
