Hillary's "white" comments insulted everyone...
First, it assumes that black people don't count because we can take them for granted.
Then it assumes that less educated, less wealthy white people are racists
Lastly, it infers that only white people are hardworking and other races aren't.

Well, maybe it didn't insult everyone, just the whites and the blacks.

6. #1: What are black people gonna do? Vote Republican?
Sure, that'll work for them. :eyes:

#2: No, it assumes they recognize which candidate is the better friend of the poor, lesser educated working class - and it ain't Obama.

#3: No, it infers no such thing, hence the "white" classification; since other races are also hardworking.

7. So the woman who's taken in $109 million in the past 7 years (plus maybe another $24 mil)
Edited on Sat May-10-08 05:26 AM by CakeGrrl
is the 'better friend' of the poor, lesser educated working class?

In what ways? How do her policies, compared to Obama's, better serve them?

As for "what are black people gonna do"...they may not vote Republican, but nor are they obligated to let HRC use them as a stepping stone to achieve her ultimate goal of gaining the WH. If someone feels that strongly about what she and her campaign have said or done to alienate them, they can always write in someone else.

9. Trust me
I live whithin spitting distance of the Clinton's. You should see their house. They're real "middle class". HAHA! And you don't see Hillary or Bill at the supermarket. Secret Service surround him on his rare outings to Starbuck's in Chappaqua.

11. You certainly don't have to be poor to be a champion of the working class
Examples of that throughout history abound - and my first choice, Edwards, is just another. And Hillary wasn't the one sending an emissary to Canada assuring them NAFTA would continue safely in place while saying the complete opposite to the electorate. Hillary has picked up the anti-trade mantle from Edwards, while Obama continuously confirms the stereotypes about him in the minds of the working class; the "bitter" comment obviously being the biggest fuck-up. But I genuinely believe that's what he really thinks, he's just sorry the words were leaked beyond San Francisco. He's disconnected from the working class mentality in a way Hillary and (even more so) Bill are not.

Writing in someone else is tantamount to a McCain vote; it doesn't matter if Hillary or Obama is the one being written in.

28. blacks can stay home. she is flirting with that idea with her hating.
aides have said even she regrets the remarks, not for their evil content but for the fact that they are hurting her campaign. The idea that whites won't vote for a black man is evil. sheer evil.

8. Also insulted people who didn't attend college
Some people chose not to go or couldn't afford college. She assumes non college educated people can be easily fooled because they're stupid or gullible. I know plenty of very smart people who never attended college.

22. How else do you explain so-called "liberals" and "progressives" supporting a DLC candidate?
For the entire 7 years I've been on DU I, among others, have railed against the DLC unremittingly.

I feel the same way about the DLC as I do about Republicans and neocons and neoliberals. I make no bones about it, ever.

So why should I give supporters of a DLC candidate any more of a pass than I would give supporters of a Republican candidate?

At best I consider them misguided and ill-informed.

The OP is making a perfectly reasonable assumption that most people are aware of this particular event.

21. I didn't have one handy. There are many threads on this topic, you can go to NPR or PBS websites.
If you caught "Washington Week" on PBS last night, a good part of the discussion was devoted to Clinton's "white" statement.

You could also just take my word for it, when I tell you that references are available and where they are.

25. Hillary did not insult blacks
A Dem. nominee needs to White working class in order to win. Period. This is regardless of how well he does with blacks, who will ALWAYS vote for a Dem. by a very large margin approaching 90% or more. Electorally speaking, Whites are, OBVIOUSLY, more important than blacks. Stop faking outrage.

31. Yeah, Hillary's pigeonholing ain't flyin'
She's trying to paint broad cartoon caricatures of Americans in the hopes that some people are thick-headed or bigoted enough that these images will resonate.

The problem is, most people's reaction is, "Hey, wait a minute, that's not me. That's not anyone I know. That's not any actual person."

Not to mention, all her figures and data are flawed anyway.
