Local Democrats: 'He nailed it'

Local Democrats watching Sen. John Kerry address the nation Thursday night declared that their presidential candidate had hit a home run.

"We already won the election," said Stephen Titoe, a St. Cloud State University student who watched Kerry's acceptance speech with about 75 other party faithful at Michael's restaurant.

Democrats said Kerry touched on the important issues of war, the economy and health care; demonstrated his ability to lead; and aimed tough one-liners at President Bush.

"I think John Kerry found his voice," Jim McNelly of St. Cloud said. "He nailed it."

McNelly especially liked Kerry's line calling on "those who talk about family values to start valuing families."

"I think that was a winner," McNelly said.<snip>
