Edwards Campaigning With Obama During The General Will Go Far With The Working Class
Once Edwards hits the trail with Obama during the general the blue collar democrats will come home really fast I think. Obama should keep Edwards close by over the next months, and maybe even announce him as his attorney general. No offense to Hillary, but thse voters are more loyal to and listen to Edwards more than anyone else, so his campaigning will really be beneficial.

Hillary campaigning with Obama will help sure up latinos and females. That's where her influence will be greatest. Maybe he'll also name her as Secretary of State, or something like that.

Once this trio (and Bill Clinton) hit the 50 states together we will have an extremely strong democratic party behind our nominee. Think of all the newly registered voters we have, and the excitment behind our party. Think of all the money Obama will be able to raise. I think the republicans are in for a tough fight come November.

4. Hillary campaigning for Obama is the one who will bring us together.
She is really the one needed to make us one come November. I believe that if Obama is our nominee she will be out in full force to heal the wounds of her supporters, which is large and strong.

5. To be honest, I don't think working class people see much of a friend in Edwards
His saint status on this board has me bewildered. Ive seen him more of a used car salesman who left the lot everyday in his brand new porsche

7. Yea right, Edwards was easily the first choice of the working class. That was his base.

8. By saying a group is your base, doesn't make it so.
Had that been the case, be would of ruled the initial primaries and caucuses. He didn't.

Look, he is successfully creating a perception to some people that this is his base, but not to everyone (especially those in that group). Thats why his candidacy took a nosedive. You got a guy spouting off about how hes fighting for people he probably wouldn't invite to his dinner table or have cut his expensive hair. There was an obvious incongruence with his message and reality.

10. Im pretty much hitting a blank wall on this one...
Are blue collar workers truly influenced by any existing members of the democratic party? Is there a name passed amongst the ranks at lunch time, shouted out at the union halls, hailed as heros at home to the children? In my opinion, not really. Whether or not there are people who are fighting for the working class is quite a different question than who the working class percieves to he that person.

I found John Edwards to be a bit of a wealthy con-man trying to fill this void he recognized. But I feel it is indeed a void in our society and the democratic party. Long ago, they have strayed from their socialistic/populistic, pro-worker agenda that defined them so clearly at the time of FDR/Truman. Whereas people, common people, used to be influenced and would revere certain political figures as heros of their class, I do not think that this is a trend common and homogeneous amongst families in this time.

11. By the way, that is like asking, who is our modern day, American Morales...
...to which I answer, we have none.

12. Well then I guess John Edwards is as good an answer as any.
I stand by my OP.

Though I suppose Ralph Nader or even Michael Moore could be named, but it's unlikely either of them will be hitting the campaign trail with Obama any time soon.
