They put it best on MSNBC tonight: A McCain presidency means the end of Roe v Wade
This is a BIG part of the reason why Dems need to vote Dem in November, regardless of the nominee. If McCain is able to appoint even on SCOTUS judge it'll likely mean the overturning of Roe v Wade and the death of a woman's right to choose. It's that simple. If you support this basic civil liberty, you HAVE to vote Dem.

1. no it doesn't....
but it would mean that Congress would have to become competent...which I grant you is a long shot.

However I'm tired of pretending that Congress isn't at fault for enabling the President and failing to hold him and his cabinet accountable.

2. If the President provides three possibility of three nominees, each who are conservative
it doesn't matter what the senate does......we will still end up with a conservative on the court. It's called the probability of the math.

6. no, they have to fail to approve any of the candidates
and none are seated

There is no rule which says the Congress must approve one of the Presidents nominees if they are not acceptable

15. You are not operating in reality......
And what you are saying will not come to pass.

What will come to pass is if McCain is elected, women who support Hillary, if they decide not to vote for Barack, will be cutting off their nose to spite their face. That is the reality of it. Is Hillary really worth that?

16. Scare tactics are BS
The world will not come to an end if McCain is elected
Anymore than if Gore/Kerry had been elected girls in HS would be required to have abortions

It was BS when the RW were doing it. And its BS when progressives are doing it

I for one am tired of letting Congress off the hook. Poor Congress they couldn't do anything because Bushco wouldn't let them.
Hell, they should have impeached Bush/Cheney and put many of the other cabinet officers on trial.

But they didn't.

18. Scare tactics, whether via 3:00 am phone calls, or having Hillary supporters
state that they won't vote for Obama if he is the nominee, shouldn't work.

However, this is not a scare tactic....it is a fact.
Do with it what you'd like.

19. Its not a fact
its an assumption or a suspicion or a fear.

And it wouldn't have to be any of those with a competent Congress

20. So you are willing to bet on McCain appointing judges to the bench
that are pro-choice, right?

Kinda of like Hillary choosing to "trust" Bush by giving him a blank check to go to war.

I see now why you support Hillary Clinton. :eyes:

10. Congress could pass a law...
guaranteeing a woman's right to choose. If Dems have a majority that is what they'll have to do if McCain is in.

14. Such a law would likely be struck down by the same Court that takes out Roe.
On similar grounds.

We need a constitutional amendment.

13. That's a Great Point
It's the Democratic congress that has allowed Roe v Wade to be legislated away, piece by piece. Let them fight for it, for a change.

4. A Hillary Presidency would mean the same thing.
She has said she wants to codify ROE V WADE to the states.

7. That means little to those who are so pissed that their candidate lost
that they would rather see Obama lose so they can say, "Nah-nah, nah-nah, nah, nah!" Or that Obama pays off Hillary's debts which is the most dumb ass reason I have ever heard of for not supporting the party's nominee.

8. Spite will make the griefers take that as an “acceptable loss”...
Voting for McCain, trash-canned symbolic write-in votes et.al.

There are folks hung up enough on their personal psychoses that it'll be “O.K. with them. Sadly.

11. And President Barack Obama Can Sign "Present"
Edited on Wed May-07-08 09:58 PM by Crisco
On any bill that gets put on his desk.

Seriously?

So what. The women who fought tooth and nail for Roe v Wade have been under attack for four months. The generation of women who need it most have been enlisted to tell us what a hag Hillary is and what witches we are for supporting her.

You don't really think I'm going to take this kind of blackmail seriously, do you?

17. It's not just Roe - forget privacy, civil rights and they'll probably throw out the commerce clause
as well. JPS has been holding on a long time and he's the most liberal. He's about 85 now. The next justice gives Roberts and his thugs their clear majority. They'll be able to do whatever they want, and this has been a very political court.
