One thing is certain...If Clinton or Obama is elected president,
the degree of success of their term will affect women and people of color in subsequent elections.

Nobody questions whether a white male is capable of leading our country. Nobody ever will. But if a Democrat wins in November, he or she will have to prove that they rank among the nation's greatest presidents if we are to hope that another of their gender or race can be taken seriously in the future.

1. True to some extent....but the nation's demographics are changing rapidly.
In 40 years, the United States will be a minority-majority country. White males will compose a much smaller share of the electorate.

4. Maybe...
That would be assuming that for minorities, the infant mortality rate decreases and the life expectancy increases.

3. As in many occupations...
the first woman or minority hired is closely scrutinized, and must typically outperform white male colleagues in order to keep from being fired.

Sadly, there are still women and minorities in this country who lack faith in their own. It's possible, as Marmar suggests, that in 40 years or so that could change. We shall see...
