5. Byrd Carries A Small Copy Of The Constitution Around With Him....
he's pulled it out many times on the Senate floor over the last 7+ years to use against *CO. Obama is a Constitutional Scholar and teacher. It seems to me Obama is a natural for Byrd to endorse.

Does anyone believe that there is a chance that Obama can do much better than expected in WV if he gets these two powerful endorsements?

7. Byrd said in 2006
Obama: The senator with the Midas touch
Wednesday, February 15, 2006

WASHINGTON - Barack Obama has shown a Midas touch in so many different ways that it's easy to forget he's just another new senator.

In the past year, the freshman from Illinois has become a best-selling author, a millionaire, a Grammy Award winner and an important fundraiser for Democrats.

Altogether, Obama has helped raise $6.5 million for his political action committee and other Democratic candidates, party committees and state parties, as he crisscrosses the country from New Jersey to Virginia to Florida.

He brought in about $800,000 with an e-mail message sent out on MoveOn.org on behalf of Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., who at age 88 is seeking a ninth term in office.

"He said some nice things about me," Byrd recalled. "Anywhere he comes in West Virginia we will give the man a great reception. He's a wonderful man."

9. What Is The Voting Situation Like In West Virginia?.......
Is is a red or blue state? How many African-American voters? What about young voters, women voters, etc?

What chance really does Obama have to close the percentage points between Hillary and himself in West Virginia? All I heard is that Hillary would win West Virginia big.

With a Rockefeller endorsement and the nice things Bryd has said about Obama - what are his chances there?

I see there's a Dem Gov. there - Joe Manchin III - who has he endorsed?

What about the Dem Representatives - Alan B. Mollohan and and Nick J. Rahall II - who have they endorsed?

Has Obama visited the state yet? What's his ground game in WV or has he conceded it to Hillary? Is he running ads in WV?

10. Most people on DU would probably call WV a red state
but the truth is more complex. Usually the state votes Democratic, and last time I checked (which was after the last election) most of our elected officials are Democrats. But the state went to Bush both times in the last two presidential elections.

I don't recall whether Manchin has endorsed anyone, but he is a Democrat. Rahall has endorsed Obama, if I'm not mistaken. Don't know about Mollohan (I pay attention to Rahall because he's my Rep).

Obama has been here, once to Charleston and once to Beckley that I know of (both visits took place about a month ago). He has had ads running in the Huntington area for a couple of weeks now.

I don't know specifics about the demographics you questioned, but I can say from my experience of living here all my life that WV appears to be mostly white, mostly older voters. Many, many low-income people, too.

My understanding is that Obama's not projected to win WV. I hope he wins, or comes close, but I won't be surprised if Hillary does win big here. The good news, for Obama supporters at least, is that we're a small state with few delegates. So even if Hillary does win here, it probably won't affect Obama much.

11. Rockefeller has endorsed Obama, Byrd hasn't endorsed anyone, Rep. Rahall is with Obama

Rep. Mollohan - no endorsement. Gov. Manchin says he'll go with whoever wins WV (translation: Clinton)
