"Obama Is Going To Have Trouble Gaining The Support Of White Voters...
Who move their lips while they're reading the Bible." I heard a Black minister on M$NBC say that late last night while they were discussing the upcoming primaries in WV & KY. It struck me that those are the "swing voters" that the Hillary people were talking about this morning during their conference call. How do we educate those voters? Or do we just need to move on and build a coalition of new voters and crossover voters large enough to overcome the bigotry of those people?

1. How about we offer to ban abortion? That ought to make them happy.
Are these even real swing voters, or are we now trying to see if we can force Obama to court GOP hardliners?

6. A Lot Of Those People Voted For Hillary...
A lot of them don't just vote GOP. That was my point, how can we bring them in or will it just be impossible?

2. I think Obama can relate his story with them, he should try to connect and do his best but you're...
...right, I don't see why people still have this hang up but I'm putting the onus on Obama more right now

3. You take Hillary out of the equation...
and give them a choice between Obama and McCain. It's hard to tell how well Obama will do among the Demographics his opponents say he can't win when he's splitting the vote with another contender for the nomination.

4. Obama doesn't need more than 35% of WV and KY
especially he can make up the difference--and clinch the superdelegate lead--in Orgeon in two weeks.

11. His support from white women went up 5% between PA and IN.
It's still at 39% among dems, but how many of the 61% would be voting for McCain instead?

10. If Obama gets all his votes and half Hillary's, he wins.
It's really that simple. Even if we assume that half her votes go to McCain (which they won't), and half come to him, Obama will WIN. Name the states where McCain has gotten more votes than Obama. As long as Obama can outpoll McCain heads up in the races already run, and Obama gets a 50% or better split of the Hillary voters, he wins.

12. Demonstrate that we actualy understand what they think and why they think it.
Why = recognize THEIR Values

Then show the similarities between their Values and OUR Values.

And connect our Values to our actions.

In short: STOP accepting the ridiculous Reich Wing characterizations of Progressives and Liberals as MORAL DEGENERATES.

13. Thank You...
I guess Obama has been trying to do that, and the "values" part of his speech last night is an example.

15. I live in a Red state. He's right we DO share more than Corporate Media tells us.
Edited on Wed May-07-08 10:49 AM by patrice
All of this tension and stress gets going and no one gets outside of their cliques, so they mistake what the media says for the truth, and meanwhile no one EVER talks about how things such as the anti-War movement ARE driven by values that are very similar to **genuine** Pro-Life (IF there were such a thing). AND you can even make a case for how Pro-Choice (with appropriate supports for reducing the numbers of pregnancies and abortions, increasing adoptions, coming to some agreement about what constitutes the "health of the mother", and parental notification when possible) is ALSO driven by values that are similar to Pro-Life. But we never hear these discussions; we never get that far because there are too many people who have created jobs, with the help of Corporate Media and the Churches, maintaining the DEATH STRUGGLE on this particular issue.

We need to have open discussions about Values.
