Poll question: Since it appears over, esp. with the Clark news of calling HRC, & her rhetoric being toned down -
Edited on Wed May-07-08 01:47 AM by themartyred
Does Obama shock many of us and pick her as his running mate? For the longest time I thought this impossible. But I keep getting a feeling it's going to be a Clinton or one of her surrogates, to shore up support in FL, OH, NJ, CT and elsewhere.

1. Her dropping out would greatly increase her chances, that's for sure.
I still don't think it'll happen.

But I do think it's possible.

3. a big Clinton backer here (she escapes me right this second)
got me thinking of this weeks ago, as she admitted it was probably over for Hillary, but saw her being VP, at first I was like NO WAY, but this past week, I feel the tone has calmed down from her side, and she would be a vicious attack dog on McSame and the 3rd B*sh term... I don't want her to be the VP, but I won't complain, as the Clintons still have PLENTY of power and connections.

I would LOVE Clark, or a former Clinton surrogate, Richardson, who went for Obama and was called Judas for it, but I question how poorly he'd do in a debate, like all the others. On the stump and in interviews he's great.

2. If Clark helps get Hillary to drop out and polls well in battlegrounds I like him
he should be on a short list.

5. I would think he polls well in Colorado, Florida, and Ohio...
I see Obama having a shot at all 3, esp. CO and OH. But if he picks Clark, she could campaign down here with Clark often and help get Obama a slim victory... if it's Hillary as VP, Florida & Ohio are a lock, which may seal the deal I guess, b/c if he gets those two, along with the already strong blue states - it's ova!

4. Obama will choose someone that offers a significant chance of winning an important state.
I am not sure what Clark brings to the table in that manner. I think it will be someone else.

6. I have no problem with Obama / Clark

it would deal with a number of issues...

1) Gets some (majority?) of Hillary supporters back in the party

2) Gives Obama someone with great military stature and much more command experience than McLame

3) Doesn't create a "message problem" (Clark isn't perceived to be a Washington insider, even though he probably really is)

4) balances the age/experience thing

5) Clark has decent foreign policy credentials.

Now if only Clark was an older white female.

7. I don't want that lying sack of shrill
anywhere near the Whitehouse ever again. I'd be quite disappointed in Obama if he chose her, but I have a feeling he won't.

14. yep, I believe your scoop to be right. I don't think he wants to play second fiddle, esp. with his
lovely wife's condition. He would be my choice if he wanted it. But that's why I think Clark would make a great backup. He has so much in the sense of resume - and what they used to gripe about him, that he's not exciting enough, wouldn't be important as inspiring Obama's, VP.

I loaded a video on here a couple years ago of Clark speaking in Iowa - and he was more inspiring than I think people outside of DU realize.

11. Obama's too smart
to pick up that baggage..he's his own man and will pick from his supporters not from the pack who told lies about him and Samantha Powers.

17. If she drops out now...it'll be more than enough time to bring the party back together
The only way I think he'd HAVE to make her VP would be if she had her way tonight. Obviously Wright wasn't as big of an issue as some thought it would be and he overperformed. Obama doesn't need her...he doesn't need the spectre of the Clintons hanging over every damn thing he does. I can already envision a divided administration. I want to get past that petty bullshit...

18. Lipstick on a pig
There's no running mate who is going to help Obama win the GE. I predict he will end up being one of the most unpopular Dem candidates in recent history.

19. I do respect everyone's opinion
my opinion is that many HRC backers are very bitter this day. I hope, much like how I felt when Edwards left, that many of you all support our Democratic party candidate - b/c when it came down to it, I would hold my nose and vote for HRC and walk a mile to get there just so McSame didn't get in.

I think Obama, if he gets in, will be one of the best presidents of the past 50 years. Jimmy was great, too bad he didn't get another 4 years, that horrible dollar gas did him in, and the shenanigans around the hostages.

20. Turnabout is fair play, maybe the $4+ a gallon gas will do the republicans in
I kind wish it was $5+ in some ways because not only would make for cars being more efficient quickly but it also help to usher out republicans so much better :D

22. Wes Clark is not going to be on the ticket, and neither is any general.
It's not going to happen.

Obama will pick a person he thinks is (1) ready to be president, (2) trustworthy, (3) a real team player, and (4) a worthy confidant and advisor.

I don't know who that is, but it might just be Bill Richardson. It won't be Hillary. It might be John Edwards.
